PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

MS MICHELLE HAEUSLER - PRINCIPAL

Last week was a week full of many emotions at our school. On Tuesday we farewelled our Year 12 students.  After two years of disruptions due to COVID, we were able to celebrate the wonderful efforts of our Year 12 students and wish them well as they ventured out the school gates for the last time. We wish them, and many of our Year 11 students, all the best in their exams, which started on Wednesday this week.

On Friday we welcomed all other year levels back on site permanently for the first time since 20th August.  It has been wonderful to have everyone back together again.

More exciting news was released this week, as we were informed that many current restrictions will be relaxed from Monday 1st November. The change to restrictions will allow our students to attend camps and go on excursions, as well as have guest speakers on site.  Masks will also only be required to be worn inside, and in spaces where physical distancing cannot be avoided. A letter will provide Year 9, 10 and 11 families with more information about the upcoming camps.

To assist in keeping everyone safe at our school, we have implemented our COVID safe plan, which includes utilising rooms that have good air ventilation. There are a couple of classrooms in our that do not allow for air circulation, so we are not currently using these spaces. To prepare for using these spaces in 2022, we are investigating the purchase of air purifiers.

I thank all families that have taken all precautions in preventing the spread of COVID-19 by keeping students home when they have not been well and having appropriate testing completed if someone in the home has become a close contact.  In the event of a positive COVID case at our school, the school would close for a day to allow for a deep clean and tracing of close contacts. All relevant and appropriate information would be shared with parents in a letter via Operoo. We remain positive that with our COVIDsafe plan in place and everyone adhering to mask usage and good hand hygiene, the school will remain open.

House Captains

The House Leaders have had the very difficult decision this week to interview and appoint the student House Captains for 2022.  I have the pleasure to announce that the 2022 House Captains are:

         Hiva Nimo      Harrison Stanyer

Ms Howison is assisting our Student Committee mentors in the process of interviewing and appointing our Student Leadership Committee Captains.  These will be announced in our next newsletter.

Enjoy the extra couple of days off this weekend, if you are lucky enough.  The staff will be engaged in a Professional Learning Day on Monday and then a well earned rest on Tuesday.
