HEADSTART October Apprentice and Trainees

This month the following students were successful in securing apprenticeships and traineeships as part of their HEADSTART programs:

Jonathon Ung

Jonathon is currently completing Year 10 at Acacia campus and would like to become a plumber. As a starting point, Jonathon applied for the Business traineeship with Swan Plumbing and was offered a position at their Cheltenham store. Jonathon will work every Wednesday and Friday during Year 11 and complete his Certificate III in Business. This will allow him to build skills and knowledge relating to the plumbing industry and to form relationships with employers which he hopes will lead to a plumbing apprenticeship as part of his Year 12 HEADSTART program. Good luck Jonathon you’re off to a great start!

Jaymien O’Connor

Jay has been completing his Certificate II in Building & Construction as his VET subject during Year 11 at Banksia campus. Jay has always planned to move into the industry and become a carpenter. He applied for the HEADSTART program and completed a work place trial during the September term break with a company called 360 Windows in Frankston. Jay was one of 2 Keysborough students to trial and was delighted when he was offered the position as an apprentice carpenter with the company. Jay will work 2 days per week and commence his Certificate III in Carpentry at Holmesglen TAFE as part of his Year 12 program in 2022.

Well done Jay!

Amira Hussein

Amira is currently completing Year 11 VCAL at Banksia campus and has her sights set on becoming a teacher. Amira was one of 3 applicants to apply for a vacancy with Nido Early Educational Centre, and delighted to be told she was the successful applicant. Amira is a great communicator, well organized and loves spending time working with children. Amira will complete her traineeship in Early Childhood Education and Care as part of her Year 12, working 2 days per week. Good luck Amira, as you embark on your chosen pathway to become an educator!

It was so nice to catch up with some of our past students through the College Alumni program during Pathways this term. Our Year 11 students were given a careers presentation and had the ability to speak with past students who have recently made the transition from school, into the world of employment.

“Hearing about past student’s pathways after leaving school was very inspiring. We learnt that not everything goes smoothly and that is just a part of life, but we also discovered how perseverance can help anyone achieve their goals” Logan Yr 11 VCAL

We listened to our Alumni’s personal journey’s through school, discovered what inspired their career pathways, heard about the obstacles they faced and how they overcame them, and then celebrated their successes as they shared their career and future aspirations.
