HOW THE 5P’S COULD HELP YOU IN THE FUTURE
Student Engagement & Wellbeing School Improvement Team
At Keysborough College we pride ourselves on the 5P’s Learning Framework in the classroom and give recognition to students upholding these values through our Red Awards. However, have you ever stopped to think about how these skills may actually translate into your working life?
The following examples show what employers are looking for and how our students are using the 5P’s in their workplace:
- Present - 3 VCAL students at KSC recently completed a workplace trial with a local Mechanic. The working day started at 7am, however the employer requested that they all attend on their first day from 6am. This was his way of ensuring they would be punctual, committed, ready to work & learn. All students arrived on time, were able to complete their safety induction and were “work ready” to commence at 7am.
- Proactive - 2 students recently completed a workplace trial with an Electrical company. The successful applicant was the student who asked questions, showed initiative was a self-starter, looked for the task needing to be completed next and didn’t stand around doing nothing.
- Productive - One of our HEADSTART students is a female working in a traditionally male dominated trade. She has been able to display a wonderful work ethic which really impressed her employer, she is highly productive and does not let obstacles get in her way. This strong work ethic and dedication to her chosen industry lead to her b employed as aa apprentice Cabinet Maker.
- Prepared - 2 HEADSTART students were able to demonstrate how organised they were at their trial with a local Restaurant owner. Their time management skills were essential to help them meet deadlines with meal prep and orders in a very fast paced industry, they were able to understand the task and work as a team to deliver restaurant quality meals.
- Persistent – We have a student who travels from Keysborough to the Mornington Peninsula twice per week for his school-based apprenticeship. He has worked out a route that involves taking a train and bus and having a 5am start. However, this did not stop the student who has shown determination to continue with the job and his employer is very impressed with his persistence and work ethic.
So next time you wonder why the 5P’s are important skills for you to develop in your time at Keysborough College. We hope that you remember these are transferable skills, that will one day help you in your chosen career.
