Student News

Congratulations to Zoe Addinsall, in Year 8, who was named the 2021 winner of the “Junior Hamilton Sportswoman of the Year”. Zoe had tremendous success earlier in the year at various state and national level Tetrathalon, Pony Club Australia and Modern Pentathalon events. She has put in a huge amount of training and commitment to reaching this level and is thoroughly deserving of this award. The following College students were also nominated – Muirne Reilly, Madeleine Green, Laura Michelmore and Zoe Weinberg. Congratulations to these wonderful sports women.

Year 7 student, Jack Sobey, was named for the Golden Nugget Camp for elite Under 14 junior Victorian basketballers. We wish him all the best for this opportunity in Bendigo later this year.

In other exciting news this week, Year 10 students Henry Bensch and Jack Austin were selected as part of the Under 16 Western Waves squad to participate in the Statewide Youth Premier League series in November and December. Henry was named as captain of the side, which is a huge sign of respect by the selectors for his all-rounder attributes, whilst Jack will be integral to the team as a wicket keeper and top order batsmen. Congratulations boys.

Basketball News

Please see below for the latest information from the HBA:

FINALLY with restrictions easing we have some momentum towards our return to sport! We will be making lots of announcements over the next few weeks, so watch this space.

It is great to hear news of restrictions easing. However, the rapid pace of these changes and the unprecedented nature of the new 'normal' (e.g. vaccination requirements) it makes this situation a nightmare in terms of developing concrete rules.  Please know that we are in conversation with Basketball Victoria and HILAC, and working our way through the changes and announcements as fast as we can.

We are still expecting to be able to recommence basketball next month and will keep you informed of the details as soon as we can confirm them.

I will pass on any further information to our basketball community as they come to hand. Trainings can now resume in the Sports Centre and coaches/Team Managers should have been in touch with their players to work out and communicate their training times.

This week saw the conclusion of the 2021 House Basketball competition. Young House was victorious overall after a dominant performance in the girls, followed by Laidlaw, and Berry and Learmonth equal third. This competition is predominantly student led and I must thank the previous and new Basketball Captains, Sports Prefects and other student helpers in running this year’s competition.
