Girton Mate Mail

The Emotional Intelligence team has instigated a uniquely Girton way to help students and staff connect in some small way during times of social isolation.

Girton Mate Mail is an email template that allows the sender to reach out to someone and check in on others in a simple, fun and engaging way.

The idea is for the sender of a Mate Mail to demonstrate to their chosen recipient that they are thinking about them and are interested in them. The sender and the recipient of a Mate Mail complete an email template that prompts them to identify things that make them smile and depict what makes them smile by pasting an image into the template. The Mate Mail template also prompts users to reveal something new about themselves.

Teachers have used the Girton Mate Mail to reach out to students, which has helped to start conversations online and offline, and students have enjoyed connecting with one another in this novel way.

The Mate Male initiative was launched on national RUOK Day last week, and Dr Massey was the first to send a Mate Male, which all staff received.

Below is a sample of some of the delightful exchanges that transpired from the flurry of Girton Mate Mail on RUOK Day.
