VCE Performances

VCE Students undertook filmed rehearsals for the VCE Music Performance examinations last week.  Please enjoy a sample from Lucy Kitching (12 Aherne) and Jacob McKenzie (12 Millward)

Lucy Kitching performing ‘Round Midnight by T. Monk, accompanied by Ms Cheryl Long. Lucy is studying VCE Music Performance, focusing on contemporary voice. Lucy has included this piece into her recital program to showcase her capacity to present repertoire from a broad range of styles. This piece allows Lucy to explore a large vocal range, incorporates sultry vocal tones and gives space for her to showcase a range of jazz-influenced tone colours. Lucy has a range of recital repertoire, broadly selected from Kate Miller-Heidke, Regina Spektor, the musical Cry-Baby, and more.

Jacob McKenzie performing Don’t Boogie Woogie by R. Stevens, accompanied by Ms Cheryl Long. Jacob is studying VCE Music Investigation, and his focus area is lyrical humour in vocal repertoire. The piece centres are a dialogue between a doctor and patient regarding healthy lifestyle choices.  Jacob has included this piece in his program to demonstrate how humour can be conveyed while presenting a range of vocal tone colours, contrasting an Elvis Presley influenced tone colour against David Clayton-Thomas. The outcome is a Rock ‘n Roll conversation and a bit of a groovy contrast in the recital program, contrasting with works from Gilbert and Sullivan, Tim Minchin and the musical Cabaret.
