Dear Families,

It has been wonderful to have our students back, and to welcome all back into our on site program.

As much research and commentary from a range of sources be they psychologists, social service organisations, educators, family counselling and youth services organisations points to the social and emotional challenges of re-adjustment back to regular routine, we have responded to assist students with an exciting alternative program – ‘Return, Re-charge and Reconnect’.

It is important that we focus upon empathic reset and engagement, and to avoid a ‘business as usual’ approach to learning, so that students can re-connect with important routines and relationships that are the basis of quality learning experiences. In this way we can forward as a learning community, doing our best to support every student in their readjustment to the routines of daily engagement in learning at Lalor.

On their first day back, students from years 7 to 10, students participated in engaging workshops that were streamed into classes and facilitated by class teachers.

All students were treated to a formal welcome back by our Principal, a discussion from sub-school staff about staying safe, being mindful and returning to routines, re-connecting with friends, a presentation regarding curriculum support, and finally a wonderful opportunity to create their own decorated tile with messages of hope and positivity. These tiles will become a lasting feature in an installation in the college grounds. See the sessions below:

Thank you to all staff and students who collaborated beautifully to make this first day a fabulous success for all.

A note to remind parents that the City of Whittlesea will attend the College on 12th November to continue its standard vaccination program for students (this has no relation to Covid19, it is the standard schools immunisation program that has operated for many years and works to keep our children and communities safe. The immunisation program is as follows:

  • Year 7 students receive their 2nd Human Papilloma Virus vaccination, and also will also offer catchup vaccines to those that may have been absent at the 1st visit earlier this year.

  • Year 10 Students that may still be due to receive or missed receiving Meningococcal ACWY in 2021.

Further information regarding immunisations is available on Compass, and this will be highlighted again to families this week.

Again welcome back to all, and please do not hesitate to be in touch with any queries regarding our safe return to daily school routines.
