YEARF 8I HUMANITIES
During the start of Term 4, year 8 Humanities classes started to explore the ancient worlds of the Aztecs, Mayans and Incan people.
In the class of 8I we thought we would take a break from the theory while online and make some masks. The masks reflected the patterns and styles commonly in artifacts found during this period of time.
We also have learned some fun facts. Here are some:
- They were the first people to discover chocolate
- They believed that cacao beans were a gift from the gods. They hoped that drinking this chocolate would give them god-like wisdom
- To keep the gods happy, they made lots of sacrifices (including humans!)
- They valued strength and ferocity in battle. In fact, every male was trained to be a warrior
- They built huge cities and canals, but never invented the wheel
- Art was really important for the Aztecs too. They made intricate masks, pottery and jewellery
Below we have masks from Pheobe, Loveleen, Zaynab & Emily.
