A plant needs good soil in which to grow and so do we! In “good soil”, we grow in knowledge and understanding as precious disciples of Jesus who live our lives in the Spirit.

The students who have been preparing to receive the Holy Spirit again at Confirmation have been offered the “nutrients” they need to grow their spiritual development as a member of the Catholic community.

On Friday evening, we will welcome Bishop Anthony Randazzo into our parish community. Bishop Anthony will pray that the students will be filled with the gifts of the Spirit.

The seven gifts are:

WISDOM: To see the way God sees the.

UNDERSTANDING: To help us know the true meaning of what we are taught.

COUNSEL: To help us make right choices.

FORTITUDE: To help us do what is right, even when it is difficult.

KNOWLEDGE: To help us know who God is in our lives.

FEAR OF THE LORD: To help us be amazed by God’s wonderful works.

PIETY: To help us respect God’s greatness.

To respond, the students will be invited to thank God for these gifts; to think deeply about what they mean and to reflect upon how they will use these gifts for the common good. In fact, the more we use a gift of the Spirit, the more it will grow!

And Bishop Anthony will say,

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

who brought these your servants to new birth

by water and the Holy Spirit,

freeing them from sin:

send upon them, Oh Lord, the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete;

give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding,

the spirit of counsel and fortitude,

the spirit of knowledge and piety;

fill them with the spirit of the fear of the Lord.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
