Netball News

On 22 June the Year 7 and Year 8 netball teams travelled to Ballarat to compete in the Greater Western Region stage of the School Sport Victoria Tournament.

The Year 8 side played two games throughout the rounds. They comfortably won their first game against Horsham College 20-9 , but Izzy Spencer suffered an ankle injury early in the second half that ruled her out for the rest of the tournament. In the second game they lost by only one goal  in a hard-fought battle against Mercy College. The Year 8 team finished second in their pool and progressed through to the semi-finals where they faced Emmanuel College who had been very strong in their pool. Emmanuel had an exceptional first half to gain a very comfortable 19-4 goal lead but Trinity rallied to produce a second half score of 12-8. All of the damage had been done in the first half but the girls should be extremely proud of the resilience and determination that they showed against a much bigger and stronger team.

The Year 7 girls were scheduled to play four games throughout the day. Their first game against Mercy College was a tight contest, but Trinity managed to hold up to the pressure and come away with a four goal win. They carried that form in to their second game against Horsham College. It was a close game up until half-time but Trinity continued to work hard to make intercepts and the attack end was very efficient, which resulted in an 18-10 goal win. Emmanuel College was their third opponent for the day and once again it was a tight contest. Big intercepts by Molly Fish at critical times allowed Trinity plenty of chance to score and the girls didn’t waste their opportunities. The result was Trinity 15 to Emmanuel 11. Their final game of the day was against Ballarat High School and, although they were exhausted from a huge day of netball, the girls were able to stay focussed and achieve their biggest score for the day with a comfortable 33-12 win. Finishing the day undefeated ensured that they were on top of the ladder and progress through to the School Sport Victoria State Finals later this year.

All players should be proud of their efforts. They produced a great standard of netball and represented Trinity very well. Special mentions go out to Remi Grennen, Liv Tomkins, Gabby Wheadon, Zara Walker and Leah Perkins who assisted the teams on the day. A big congratulations to the Year 7 girls and we wish them all the best for the state finals.
