Bindaree Camp
During the final week of Term 2, the Outdoor Environmental Studies class headed off to Lake Eildon to test their skills with White Water Rafting.
It was cold and raining when the group arrived, and our tour hosts from Bindaree informed us that increased rainfall meant the Goulburn River was running too high, and we would be paddling on a section of the Yarra River near Yarra Glen instead. After dinner everybody tried to stay warm around the campfire, but the next day the weather had improved and we took a short trek up to Merlo's Lookout before collapsing the camp and heading to Blackwood, a new camp within the Murrindindi Scenic Reserve. Once we had set-up, the group completed a fairy difficult and muddy walk up to Wilhelmina Falls, but all students persevered and enjoyed the spectacular views from the top.
On the third day the group headed off to the Yarra River for a full day of White Water Rafting. After a cold start, the students were soon navigating the Grade 1 and 2 rapids in sport rafts. Highlights of the day were going over Bob's Rock with two attempts and watching Mr Ryan's ability to get back into the rafts.
Well done to all the students for their meal preparation, cooking, cleaning up and assisting around the camp.
A huge thank you to Kieran and the staff at Bindaree for delivering an experience that students will remember for years to come. Also a final thank you to Trinity staff members who assisted throughout the duration of the camp.
