Georgia W Achievements

Year 8 student Georgia W competed in the Australian Gymnastics Championships earlier this term. This is the fourth time she has represented Victoria as a member of the state junior team. The Championships bring together the best young gymnasts from Australia and New Zealand.

Georgia and her team earned a silver medal in the competition, with Georgia’s impressive contribution to the team’s achievement with her hoop score.

Overall, Georgia placed 21st in Australia and New Zealand.

Georgia was very fortunate to compete as she has suffered a fracture in her foot only eight weeks before the Nationals and had to miss the second State Trials and the Victorian Championships while recovering from her injury. She had to replace many high-difficulty elements in her routine with lower-scoring elements because of her recovery from injury. Yet, despite this, she stayed positive throughout the competition and performed admirably.

After the Nationals, Georgia travelled to Singapore to participate at the Singapore Open competing with elite level Junior international gymnasts from Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and China. Georgia came 28th overall and 19th in hoop with a very high execution score of 8.1.

Georgia is looking to compete at the Nationals next year and improving her ranking to be in the top 10.
