Grade 3 - 4
Reading
We have had a great start to Term 3! In reading, we have begun learning about non-fiction texts. Students have been learning about visual aids and features in a non-fiction text. They were able to find these in information books from the library as well as online versions of information books. Students have been learning how to find the main idea from a text using only pictures and diagrams or only texts with key words. Students spent some time learning about what NAIDOC week is and how it is celebrated.
Writing
The grade 3’s and 4’s have had a great start in their writing in term 3. They have been learning about the structure of an explanation text and have been improving their skills by writing their own piece about the water cycle. They have been looking into using technical language such as evaporation and condensation.
Maths
In maths the grades 3 and 4 students have continued to learn about multiplication. They have been practising different multiplication strategies to solve number sentences and worded problems. They have been exploring how to implement these strategies through various activities.
Language Conventions
In language conventions, students have explored the correct usage of grammar and boundary punctuation within their writing. We engaged in discussion about where capital letters, apostrophes, commas, full stops, exclamation marks and question marks should be placed. Students practised editing a passage with incorrect grammar and boundary punctuation, along with editing through our writing lessons.
Humanities
Students have been delving deeper into their understanding of Indigenous history and timelines. We have been identifying Indigenous Archaeological sites and using a timeline to see how long they have been around for. Students have worked in small groups and begun researching about the world explorer Christopher Columbus and the impact his journey had on society.
Respectful Relationships
In Respectful Relationships, students have been learning about stress management and calming techniques. They are learning about appropriate vocabulary used when expressing their feelings of stress and examples of situations that can cause stress. Students explored different techniques that can be used to calm themselves when they are experiencing stress. They played different games to help support their understanding of these techniques.
