Rostrum Public Speaking

Public speaking - an art that empowers individuals to express their thoughts, inspire others, and make a difference. Boorowa Central School held our Rostrum Public Speaking competition in Week 6. The students impressed us with their eloquence and creativity. The overall winner, Ava Culek, stunned us with her inspirational speech, earning the honour of representing our school at the quarterfinals. Summer Apps, our overall runner-up, wowed us with her thought-provoking words. An unprecedented highlight of the competition was the tie for the winning spot in Stage 2. Patrick Smith and Dempsee Coate captivated the audience with their compelling speeches, making it impossible to choose between them. Meanwhile, Tyler Joyce, the runner-up, presented an equally commendable speech. Every participant from Stages 2 and 3 deserves commendation for their efforts and have received an aspire award for their excellent speeches and participation in the event. Their determination and courage made this competition a thrilling event. Thank you, parents, for your continuous support and encouragement, and working with the students. We are looking forward to further nurturing our students' public speaking skills and watching them grow into the influential voices of tomorrow.

Additionally, a sincere thank you is extended to Debra Eustace, who graciously took the time to adjudicate our competition. Her extensive experience in public speaking and working with students significantly enriched the event.

Secondary Wellbeing Day

The Stand Tall event at the ICC halls in Darling Harbour was offered to all secondary students as part of the continued focus on wellbeing at Boorowa Central School. The school wellbeing team with the help of some amazing Stand Tall school liaison offers managed to fund a series of sponsors to fund the buses and tickets.  The day started with a 5am set off, although we were a little late to arrive students were in time for Nicho Hynds who discussed over coming adversity to become a successful NRL player. Nicho also discussed the impact he wants to have off the field and after his career is over. Most students started the day not knowing the name Michael Crossland, he has left a lasting impression with the majority of students commenting that his story of resilience was very moving (all of the teachers were unsuccessfully trying to hold back tears) and the message has left an impression, days later the students can easily recall his messages. The students ate lunch out the front of the Chinese Garden, experienced sitting in a venue with 7000 other students and were entertained by some amazing student acts. The wellbeing team worked extremely hard to make this large-scale event happen for the school. We would like to thank all the students and parents for getting up early to make sure they could attend. Below are some of the excellent quotes from our students after the event.

Tamsyn Ritchie

'Life is full of challenges, but you are strong and capable of anything.'

Ellie Green

'That no matter how hard something is you can always find a way to succeed.'

Mylee Taylor

'It’s not our problems that define us it’s the way we deal with them.'

Phillip Gordon

'Michael Crossland’s speech was very inspiring, and he showed perseverance through his whole life.'

Primary Wellbeing Day

The primary school wellbeing day focused on building strong relationships with each other which included an anti- bullying message. The primary school students started the day looking at how their words and actions have an impact and placed a wrinkled heart of the display as their pledge to think before they act or speak in a negative way. Primary school was lucky enough to have the Meerkat performance team out to present the Bully Bull Ring show. The rest of the day included a series of activities based around students’ knowledge of bullying and how they can be an upstander.

Some of the activities included a discussing the show and the main theme, bullying escape room, we all fit together puzzles, Pout Pout fish read aloud and anti- bullying posters. It was a great day filled with lots of fun activities designed to deliver a profoundly serious message.
