Year 7 Technology Mandatory

Year 7 have successfully completed their aprons and transitioned into the food unit. As a class we have completed a series of demonstrations and practical lessons. Students prepared and cooked some delicious choc chip biscuits and pancakes in their first week. Keep an eye out for their scones and scone dough pizza coming up in the next week.

As part of this unit students will be learning about safety, hygiene, and equipment in the kitchen. Everyone has engaged really well so far, and I can’t wait to see their quality food products in the future. A reminder to all students that you need to bring your own clean apron and enclosed leather shoes to every practical lesson.

Year 8 Technology

It always seems like the favourite time of the year for this cohort when we transition to food technology.  The Year 8 class make such great behaviour choices when in the kitchen, effectively using their time to create quality food products. The Year 8 class have prepared rice paper rolls, banana bread muffins and rainbow rice paper rolls.

The most difficult being the precision cuts and wrapping of the rice paper, most students managed to master the skills by the end of the lesson.

Year 11 Textiles and Design

The class has now completed the under the sea theme textiles art piece. They practised and then applied a series of embellishment techniques such as heat manipulation, felting, hand embroider and patchwork. The students then layered these techniques to create depth and visual interest using only fabric.

The class is now moving onto learning about properties and performance of textiles items and will be producing a dress using complex fabrics and construction techniques.

Year 9/10 PASS Event Management

Year 9 & 10 PASS (Physical, Activity and Sports Studies) students have been working hard developing round robin draws and running events as part of their Event Management unit of work.

Students developed a draw for Years 4, 5 and 6 to rotate through different sports each Friday Week B. Students constructed draws, collected scores, set up activities and ran each event. We look forward to continuing this event and building our connection with primary students for the remainder of the term and in future units of work.

On Thursday 1 June 2023, members of the PASS class spent the day coordinating and running the Southern Regional Touch Carnival here in Boorowa. Prior to the event students developed a round robin draw, allocated teams to each field, developed result sheets and created a list of required equipment. On the day students were in charge of timing, announcements and collating results. All students have been working extremely hard this term to develop their organisational and event management skills.
