Learning in Action

Literacy: This term in Literacy the students will have a big focus on Persuasive texts. Their literacy goals will be centred around persuasive pieces, spotlighting on the main idea or opinion of a text, ways to support opinions and the language choices that can enhance this, the features of a persuasive text and overall thinking critically about a text.

We have started the Term off with a devastating circumstance with our chromebooks writing to the 5/6 students saying they have flipped their lids and quit, they have locked themselves away due to the poor mistreatment and use they have undertaken. The students have had to think of how they can persuade the chromebooks to please come back so we can use them in our learning again. We are waiting to see how the Chromebooks respond!

Maths: This term students will be continuing to work on their Maths Masters and Maths Goals throughout the term. The grade fives have begun focusing on division to begin the term, developing different ways to solve division problems. Some of these ways include understanding the connection between division and multiplication by making fact families, exploring exploding dots and the traditional algorithm.

Grade six students have been working on understanding fractions and angles. Students have been exploring fractions of a collection, fractions of a whole by using cuisenaire rods and finding equivalent fractions.

Inquiry:This term in the Senior School we will be looking at our History topic.

The Grade 5s will be focusing on: What impact did British Colonisation have on the people in Australia? We will be looking at the time period of 1800-1900 and some key areas we will be looking at are the establishment of British Colonies, Impact on first nations people, the Gold Rush and Ned Kelly.

The Grade 6s will be focusing on: What was the impact of migration on Australia? We will be looking at the time period of 1901- the present day and some key areas we will be looking at are Federation in 1901, migration to Australia post federation, human rights and public policy.

We look forward to sharing our learning and work with you over the term.

Wellbeing: This term our school value is Respect. We can show this to our friends, families, teachers and the wider community by treating others the way we would like to be treated. We will continue to be involved in Circles that practise this value. This term also will continue our weekly sessions in RRRRs and Friendology. Later on this month we are excited to be celebrating the International Day of Friendship. This will involve a morning session with our Circles group doing crafts, playing games and some respectful activities.  Details to follow at a later date.

“Respect means respecting people's space, them as a person and their property.” Sam

“If you respect someone you are making sure they feel good on the inside and the outside.” Priya

"Respect means being kind, not being rude to someone- it's not about compliments, it's about considering people's feelings.” Charlotte

Sport:As always, there is a stack of sport just around the corner. Term 3 will include multiple key events, including Athletics and Summer Round Robin. However, this coming fortnight also sees some exciting events.

Next week, several teams who were successful in the first round of the Winter Robin Robin are competing in the district stage of competition. Good luck to the netball, football and tee ball teams.

In addition, a large portion of the Senior School are heading off to compete in the Rowville District Basketball Carnival on Friday. Good luck to everyone and we know you will represent the school with pride, integrity and respect.
