What: Australian STEM Video Game Challenge

Who: Students

Free to enter, teams of 1-4, must have parent permission and be registered by school staff member – speak to Mr Drew Thomas or Mrs Elly Martin if interested.

Facilitating engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, students learn vital skills for the future through designing, building and testing an original video game. This is not tied to any particular programming language and in 2023 the theme is Construction and Destruction.

What: Camp Seek

Who: Year 9 and 10 Girls and Non-binary young people

When and more info: Camp Seek is a STEM focussed learning and immersion program for Year 9 and 10 girls and non-binary young people (aged 14 – 16 years) taking place during the September school holidays. Participants will spend four days at SEEK HQ in Melbourne. 

 

Participants will learn from subject matter experts about their career journeys in tech, develop their coding, learn about real-world problem solving and put it all to use in a Create-a-Thon project with fellow Camp SEEKers. More info: Your creative ideas can relate to improving products or interior spaces, textiles, fashion and clothing or you could create photography, animation or graphic design — anything that encompasses this year's theme: CREATIVE FUTURES

Inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, designers and creatives are applying their thinking to issues such as reducing inequality, promoting health and well-being and solutions for more responsible production and consumption of products through circular design.

Who: Open to any secondary student but it is designed for high school girls interested in coding and technology.

Le Cordon Bleu Three-day Residential Holiday ProgramYear 11 and 12 students who may be considering a career as a top chef or in a management role in hotels and restaurants are invited to participate in the Le Cordon Bleu 3-day Residential Program.

Held in the June holidays, students will –

  • Create Cuisine and Patisserie delights under the tutelage of Le Cordon Bleu chefs on campus
  • Enjoy site visits to some of Melbourne's top restaurants and hotels
  • Gain industry insights from chefs, restaurateurs and hoteliers at the top of their profession
  • Enjoy breakfasts at leading patisseries and dinners at 5-star hotels and/or fine dining restaurants
  • Create a gourmet 3-course lunch for their parents in the on-campus training restaurant on Day 3 of the Residential
  • Be fully supervised by Le Cordon Bleu staff for the full duration of the Residential

Who: Anyone interested in exploring career options and ideas

When and more info: This is Australia’s largest careers expo. You will have the opportunity to: attend information seminars, speak directly with organisations, watch demonstrations, receive career advice, participate in hands-on activities, speak to course advisers from universities and TAFEs, speak to industry experts and learn about apprenticeships, and learn about international exchange and gap year programs. The Expo will run between Friday 14 - Sunday 16 July at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre and is free for participants, www.careerexpo.com.au 

 

What: Monash Virtual VCE Revision Sessions 2023 

Who: Year 11 and 12 students studying Unit 3&4 Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Psychology and Software Development, as well as Further, Methods and Specialist Mathematics.

When: Sessions commence Term 2 and occur across the year based on topics covered in Unit 3&4 study and the final session is an Exam Revision session in Oct/Nov.

Who: Students with an interest in Art, Design and Architecture areas and the possibility of further study at Monash in these areas.

What: National Youth Science Forum

Who: Year 11 students with an interest in science

When and more info: Love STEM? Want to engage in a life changing experience? You should consider applying for the NYSF. This is a two-week on-site and digital program where students are immersed in hands-on science activities, lab experiments, field trips and meet researchers who are leaders in their field. ACADEMIC INSIGHTS PROGRAM

The National Institute of Education (NIE) Australia has partnered with Immerse Education to bring you the Academic Insights Program for: 

  • Medicine
  • Psychology
  • Veterinary Studies
  • Engineering
  • International Relations
  • Business Management, and 
  • Creative Writing

 

The program will see students live and study at The University of Sydney between 3 – 13 January 2024. Participants will attend lectures, tuitions, complete a research assignment, and be involved in an array of social and cultural activities. Students will live at St Paul's College (University of Sydney) for the duration of the program. 

The academic components of the program will be facilitated by academics from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, who will fly in and stay for the 10-day duration of the program. 

In addition to all other activities, students will be receiving a Certificate of Completion, a detailed personalised performance review, and a personalised letter of recommendation, which they can use for applying to universities and various scholarship programs. 

Program Inclusions:

 

  • 10 nights' accommodation in a college at the University of Sydney
