Kids' Lit Quiz

BMGS Runners-Up in the National Final!

Congratulations to our BMGS Kids’ Lit Quiz Team, earning 2nd place in the National Final held last Monday at the State Library of NSW!

The top fifteen teams from around Australia assembled to compete in the 'Sport of Reading', having qualified by winning their Heats. Year 7 students Bronte Secker, Clare Stewart, Elise Lowe and Grace Wesley formed a team to be reckoned with and are to be congratulated on their thorough preparation, brilliant teamwork, extensive literary knowledge and admirable courage. Their performance was extraordinary and we are immensely proud of their efforts!

The National Final was made up of five rounds of 14 questions. The Quizmaster from NZ, Wayne Mills, would begin with obscure clues, then gradually provide increasingly obvious details. Teams had to buzz in as fast as possible to answer a question ahead of other teams, earning two points for a correct answer and losing one point for an incorrect answer.  Our team came out firing and were early leaders but another team caught up on later rounds. At the beginning of the fifth and final round, our girls were 10 points behind the leaders and ready to give it everything. In that final round, the winning team scored 0 while BMGS scored 8, coming nail-bitingly close to claiming the title! They were amazing ambassadors for our school, drawing many favourable comments and compliments.

Following the National Final, teams enjoyed a tour of the State Library, after which we gobbled a late lunch and fittingly headed to Dymocks for some book browsing and shopping before heading home.

Sincere thanks to Bronte, Clare, Elise and Grace for their outstanding application to this challenge, and for an exciting and memorable journey! Congratulations, team!
