Junior School

The Junior School musical – Shrek Jnr – is in the final stages of production. There are sets, costumes and props lining the hallway and excited children everywhere. Staff are beginning to hum the songs under their breaths!

The musical has been practiced weekly under the leadership of Mr John Forbes and Mrs Julie Cooney. Other staff, like Mrs Arrell and Ms Malliatte have been helping too. An enormous amount of work goes into these productions and I hope the children involved realise the opportunity that they have.

Musical productions, especially for Junior School children, remind us that the process is usually even more important than the product. The richness of the learning – and not just in music, dance and drama – comes through those weeks and weeks of practicing. Learning to listen, learning to cooperate, learning to share ideas and follow the ideas of others, appreciating the talents we and others have.

I hope to see you at the show next week. The children are so excited by what THEY have made and they are abuzz with excitement! Our fabulous P&F will be running a café for tasty snacks and warm drinks (winter soup included!) in the Early Years atelier before the show.

Information about tickets has been sent home and appears below – so see you next week!

Junior School Athletics Carnival - Records Fall!

At last Friday’s Junior School Athletics Carnival, conditions were perfect and two 800m records were broken. These achievements were made particularly special as both of the previous record-holders were helping at the Carnival, so were on hand to congratulate the new record-holders!

Frankie Harrison broke Bella Hitchenson’s Junior Girls’ 800m record in a new time of 3:06.

Tasman Harrison broke Will Zakis’s Senior Boys’ 800m record in a new time of 2:41. This accomplishment augurs well for Tasman, as Will recently represented NSW at the Australian Track and Field Championships in the 800m. As this Newsletter goes to print, Will will be trying to break the 800m record of Australian Olympian and BMGS alumni, Ben St Lawrence, at the Senior School Athletics Carnival.

Congratulations, Frankie and Tasman! And thanks to Bella and Will and all of the Senior School students who provided vital assistance at the Carnival.
