A COOL, CALM AND COLLECTED CHANGE
Change is one of life’s constants. No matter how we might perceive it, change presents us with opportunities. Our approach to these opportunities determines how we will adapt to any given change, big or small.
In any student’s secondary school years, the transition to senior school presents many new challenges. True, the subjects, homework, and exams will require increased effort and have greater impact on the future than any other year.
But even more important are the habits and lessons learned in those last two years of senior school because they will help to form attitudes and behaviours that a young adult will carry with them as they progress through life.
Tips abound on how to approach Years 11 and 12. There is a lot of study advice online.
Even during senior school, studying alone cannot be everything. Despite your workload and obligations, try to find balance in your life. Take time out for yourself when you can. Keep a positive mindset: anxiety is not unusual and grades are not everything, so feel good about taking a slow and steady approach to your studies when you feel it is necessary.
Be focused and dedicated to your schoolwork, but also open to the possibilities that life might present. Who knows? You could discover something that becomes a lifelong interest or passion when you least expect it. Stay open to learning new things. Hang out with friends. Daydream. Meditate. Treat yourself to music, books, and film.
A better balance in life leads to increased wellbeing which allows us to see the bigger picture and remain calm and resilient when one area of life might become hectic. Perhaps the best lesson to learn during the transitions to Years 11 and 12 is that, no matter what challenges and obstacles might present themselves, keeping a cool, calm, and collected disposition is a skill in and of itself. An asset that will forever give good returns, whenever you use it, whatever you do, wherever you are.
