Excursion to the Australian Synchrotron

As part of the Year 12 physics curriculum students had the opportunity to visit the Australian Synchrotron.

 The day involved:

  • having a tour of the facility
  • being told about the incredible research being undertaken
  • hearing about how research communities across the world support each other to get results they need

The students then conducted experiments on their own which consolidated theories they had been learning regarding the duality model of light. It was a fabulous opportunity for our students to put into practice in the lab what they have been discovering  in class.

Students also learnt about future career opportunities and pathways in science.

Year 9 visit to Monash Tech School

Recently, two year 9 classes were involved in the Monash Tech School’s Superhealth program running over three days. The program aimed to open students’ eyes to possible future issues in Victoria’s health system and give them the chance to design a hospital to meet emerging demographic needs.

Over the three days students researched various problems and learnt about upcoming technologies such as Virtual Reality and DNA mapping, as well as doing some robotics to demonstrate how these technologies might be used by the health system in the future.

Overall, students had an engaging and interesting experience with many students sharing that it was one of the highlights for year 9 science so far.

We hope to return to Monash Tech soon and continue to providethis inspiring opportunity to our students.
