Celebration Day

The last day of school for current Year 12 students is October 23.

This year we hope to create a new rite of passage by creating space for students to enjoy their final day at school whilst leaving a legacy for others to follow. We hope students will view Celebration Day as an opportunity to think about others, then spend the rest of the week preparing for their final exams.

VCAA English

Did you know that the average mark for an essay in last year’s VCAA English exam was just 5.5 out of 10?

Why is the average so low when most students spend huge amounts of time preparing for their English exam?

In short, students aren’t aware of how VCAA assessors mark the exam, and the standard that’s expected to achieve higher scores. It is crucial that students obtain exam instruction from VCAA assessors, particularly in English, which has the biggest impact on the ATAR. Regardless of how well you perform in other subjects, your English study score will be included in the primary four subjects used to calculate your ATAR.

You should therefore be giving this important subject as much attention as possible and should  pursue every option that will help you maximise your English examination mark.

If you're aiming for the higher marks, you need to provide responses that clearly stand out above other student papers, a challenging task when you consider that:

  • Exam papers are marked by multiple VCAA assessors, who each have different perspectives and marking styles to that of your teachers and tutors (who won’t be marking your exam).
  •  Over 40,000 students sit the VCE English examination each year!

So, doing as many examples as possible and asking a range of teachers to assess your work is often the best preparation to MAXIMISE your score!
