Assistant Principals' Report

Exams

The sunny days have started, the signal that the end of the year is approaching. I wish all students and their families a wonderful safe Spring break.

Term 3 is possibly the busiest of the year in some respects as senior students prepare for their final exams and make choices about their future pathways. It is important they make the most of their time during the holidays, so students should be organised and have a study timetable.

Planning is well underway for the 2020 school year. Years 9 - 11 students have submitted their subject selections and I congratulate the Pathways team for their hard work and guidance supporting our students when making these important decisions.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences

It was encouraging to see many parents meet with teachers to discuss their child’s progress and areas of both success and improvement and to get information about subject opportunities for 2020.

About You Survey: The Victorian Student Health and Wellbeing Survey

Students from Years 7, 8, 10 and 11 have participated in the DET About You Survey to assess the health and wellbeing of young people in Victoria. Information on Compass Newsfeed is available for parents and students wanting more information about this survey.

Bicycle Helmets

All students who ride a bicycle to school MUST wear a helmet. Parents will be contacted immediately if a student is riding a bicycle without a helmet. It is imperative that parents support the college with this requirement.

College Uniform

The  uniform is an important aspect of the South Oakleigh College identity and helps promote a sense of belonging.  Members of the community and visitors commend our students on the way that most are wearing their uniform—a demonstration of both self-respect and pride at being a member of the college.  Regretfully, some students continue to arrive at school out of uniform, despite ongoing discussion and support.

College policy states:

-In the event of uniform emergencies, students provide their Head of House with a parent/guardian signed explanatory note before Period 1 and obtain a uniform pass for that day.

-Students out of uniform, without legitimate reason, to be issued with a lunch time detention.

-Senior school students to be sent home to change into correct uniform and return to school following contact with a parent/guardian.

I thank parents and guardians for their support as together we work towards achieving the best possible outcome for every child.
