Principal's Report

Hello BRPS Community,

I hope everyone enjoyed a wonderful long weekend and you're looking forward to the Winter break as we head into the as we head into the final couple of weeks of Term 2.

After the excitement of our camel visit in support of the Year 5 Science Unit "Desert Survivors" a few weeks ago, I encourage you to navigate to the feature page in this newsletter where some of the Year 5 students have showcased their learning.

Rhyme Rocket "The Ridiculous Rhyme Show"

Black Rock Primary School is delighted to be hosting a performance of the UK based show  "The Ridiculous Rhyme Show" tomorrow.

The show was written to engage a primary school aged audience using interactive performance and comedy. Students from F-6 will engage in an in-school performance by UK children's television presenters Joe Chambers and Andrew Crawford (pictured above) that encourages children to enjoy literacy through creative word play, which can then be carried back into the classroom following the visit.

Following the whole-school performance, our Year 4 & 6 students will be involved in a 1-hour television production workshop with the Rhyme Rocket crew.

No filming is involved during the performance.

Episodes of the Rhyme Rocket can be seen at laughnlearn.co.uk/info.

Year 3 Camp

'The Briars' Mount Martha, Thur 6th - Fri 7th June

Last week our Year 3 students enjoyed their first camp away from school, at 'The Briars' Mount Martha. The Briars camp is set in a beautiful rural environment, with excellent facilities and many adventure activities for the students to participate in, building their confidence, teamwork and resilience skills.

I was lucky enough to attend on Friday morning and join in the fun. It was a great morning participating in archery, obstacle courses and the watching all of the brave campers swing above the eucalypts on the giant swing.

I was really proud of and impressed by the organisation of the teachers who were working brilliantly together to provide the best possible experience for the students.

Year 5 Camp

'The Island' Phillip Island, Tue 11th -Fri 14th June

Year 5 camp is underway this week, with the rainy weather not dampening the spirits of the group. A visit to Phillip Island's famous fairy penguins and a chance to thaw out and cook some marshmallows around the fire was a great way to start on Tuesday evening, with Hawaiian/movie night last night.

As I mentioned above for the Year 3 group, our students are very lucky that they have such professional, dedicated, well-organised and caring teachers who genuinely love facilitating the camp experience for students and providing the social and developmental benefits that it brings.

I'd like to thank the teachers for their efforts, particularly as it means voluntary time spent away from their own families and (usually) very little sleep!

Student Achievement Reports to Parents

Semester reports for students are prepared twice per year (June and December). Semester One Student Reports will be published to all families on Compass on Wednesday 26 June.

In Semester 2, parents will be invited to book a  meeting for their child’s P/T Interview or Student Led Conference. These meetings will take place on Tuesday 23rd July.

I would like to thank the teachers for their tireless work in this area to provide parents with a detailed understanding of their child's achievements, progress and areas for future development.
