Performing Arts News

Performing Arts is off to a flying start this year, with our students exploring a range of drama practices from a variety of cultures, Dance Club and Choir are gearing up for the first major performance at the Twilight School Fair and our Music and Dance Captains are hard at work organising a plethora of performance events for the course of the year.

In the Junior School students are exploring the concepts of right and wrong as well as character and expressive skills through creating, rehearsing and refining alternative fairytales. Students are enthusiastically completing their final performance of these alternative fairytales this week.

In Middle school students are consolidating their understanding of Japanese drama practices through an inquiry unit on Bunraku Puppet Theatre, as well as developing their collaborative skills in a student-led group work, sharing a variety of roles from narrator, to puppeteer. Students have begun designing their puppets and writing their scripts, inspired by traditional Japanese folktales.

In Senior School students are consolidating their understanding of script writing and storytelling through creating short scripted drama about heroes and villains. Students are drawing inspiration from fictional heroes from the Marvel and DC universe as well as non-fictional heroes, in preparation for their Night of Notables next term.  Students are exploring elements of stagecraft such as direction, music, technology, props, costumes etc. to enhance their drama making.

Dance Club has grown in numbers and I am delighted to see a growth in the amount of boys joining! Similarly, Choir has grown in numbers and are enthusiastically rehearsing for celebration assemblies as well as the fair.

CHAMP (Croydon Hills Additional Music Program) is still taking on new students and if interested feel free to contact them at info@champlessons.com.

Be the “I” in kind

The National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA) is an important day to mark Australian school students standing together in their communities to say ‘Bullying. No Way!’

Please wear something ORANGE to help support the day on Friday March 20th.

Students will participate in activities to understand the importance of raising awareness of bullying and will help towards creating a whole school kindness display.
