Year 9 City Experience

In late Term 3 the Year 9 cohort enjoyed going into the city for five days for a week of City Experience. It was a fantastic learning opportunity for all. Here are some of the highlights of the week:

With many months of planning and scheduling in preparation for this amazing occasion, city experience there was no shortage of fun and excitement! “Exceptional” would be an understatement to describe this one week long event starting on 10th to the 15th of September. With the entire cohort of the Year 9 participating, city experience was a successful and captivating event to explore not only the Melbourne CBD, but also ourselves and challenging ourselves when placed in a position outside our comfort zone. Melbourne’s diverse and cultural environment gave students the capacity to learn further about our city, along with fun attractions such as the Melbourne Museum, Etihad Stadium, Melbourne Star, Parliament House and many, many more fun activities like a Great Race around the city. Using public transports to circumnavigating this busy city, City experience taught students many skills for life such as navigating, problem solving, socialising and also building confidence. Overall, City Experience was an extremely enjoyable week with many amazing memories made.

City Experience was an amazing opportunity, in that it allowed us to gain independence, bond with our entire class and create long lasting memories of the place we now know so much about. Our favourite aspects of City Experience, were spending time in our small group, exploring the different locations and cultures of Melbourne (Eureka Sky Deck and the Edge, Etihad Stadium, Melbourne Museum, Ice Skating and Hosier Lane) and enjoying a wide variety of traditional foods from a range of cultures.

During week 9, between the 10th and 14th of September, the Year 9 cohort had their city experience. Students and teachers were very eager for this week because they put in a lot of effort into preparing for a safe and successful week. The week taught us beneficial skills such as navigating around unfamiliar areas, being organised, learning to be both social and independent as well as learning a lot about our city. The biggest highlight for me was getting to spend quality time with my class, this was fun and an exciting way for me to get to know my peers personally. Big thanks to Ms Watson for all her hard work into planning and preparing for the week.

During week 9 of term 3 the Year 9’s went on ‘City Experience’. It was a fun and engaging way in which the year level could develop their understanding of Victoria’s capital city. For some it was at first difficult to get around the city but they soon overcame that obstacle. City week allowed students to gain independence, responsibility and knowledge. City week opened the door for students to develop a number of new skills comprising of navigation skills, time management and communication. Thank you to all the teachers and individuals who did an astounding job at organising City Experience.
