From the Chaplain

Tuesday 16th October, Ringwood Secondary College Staff and students painted one finger nail blue in order to show their support of the Polished Man Campaign. The Polished Man Campaign invites males and females to paint a fingernail blue throughout the month of October, as one child dies every 5 minutes as a result of violence. By painting a nail, students and staff are invited to  to step outside their comfort zone and to make a commitment to stand up against violence in all it's forms.

Senior Constable Chris Robinson spoke to the Year 9 students about the implications of violence, and the importance of all children to be safe. Over lunch time many students from all year levels, took the opportunity to have a nail painted.

As you can see from the photo(taken by talented student, Dillon Swifte),Students were enthusiastic in getting involved in this campaign which was wonderful to see.

Pictured is students from Ringwood secondary College, along with Kaitin Harasyn (in black) and Rebecca Wilson(in orange) both from Polished man campaign and Senior Constable Chris Robinson.

Kaitlin Harasym from the Polished Man campaign spoke of how wonderful it was to see so many of the students ad staff get involved.  She described RSC as a warm and inclusive Community and that she walked away touched.

Thanks so much to you all for making the day the success it was

RSC Work Futures EXPO 2019

We are excited at the responses we have received from ten organisations who have indicated that they would take part in our Expo next year.  These organisations represent the seven Work Clusters which define the various work groups in the workplaces of the future.  They are from the local area and cover many occupations, giving the expo attendees a good insight as to what trades and services these companies offer and perhaps, an opportunity for students to consider a wider range of jobs for their future employment.  Some other organisations have requested further details of this event.  Perhaps some of you may also like to be presenters at our Expo.

We have written to some parents inviting them to be involved.  We are hopeful that they may join in our new college initiative when they see its significance to students in the senior school and thinking about employment after leaving school.

The working party is now commencing the major task of preparing for these presentations.  This will require many inputs, with much behind-the-scenes work to do as we collate and document all the elements needed to make this event a success.  We plan to provide the best of college facilities for our presenters and visitors.  Most of the presentations will take place in the new Junior School building; some with displays in the library.

We will be inviting assistance from Lead Teachers, Assistant Principals, student groups and others from within the college to share in the preparation and to assist at the Expo on 19th June 2019.  Members of the RSC Heritage and Alumni Group will be invited to assist.  The student Media Team will be involved in the design of flyers and the event programme; video clips, and other promotional display material.  It offers a great opportunity for these students to work with us and perhaps gain new skills along the way.

Our Principal will be inviting principals from nearby schools and a small cohort of students to be guests at this great initiative to share in the new knowledge about future workplaces which is the focus of this Expo.  Technological changes are taking place in industry and commerce and may well influence decisions made by the students, and their parents, as they prepare for their working lives.
