Principal's Post

From Mr Phillips

Monday marks the last day of schooling for our Year 12 students, a journey that commenced way back in 2005. The completion of Year 12 is a very significant milestone and one that provides all of our young people with enhanced life opportunities. The Ringwood community send positive thoughts and best wishes to those students completing their final assessments, in their VCAA examinations and looks forward to celebrating your achievements in December. More importantly than any ATAR score that is achieved, I am proud of the fine young adults that you have become.

In the coming fortnight, we are hosting an exchange visit from our sister school, Sekolah Tunas Unggul, in Bandung Indonesia. A formal memorandum of understanding will be signed between our two schools. Thanks to Ms Jess Lundie for organising the arrangements for this exchange and we look forward to sharing our Australian schooling experiences with our overseas visitors.

I am really looking forward to the opening night of our Art and Technology exhibition next Tuesday which showcases the creative and artistic talents of our students across so many areas of endeavours.

Ringwood Secondary College’s 2018 production of The Addams Family has received multiple nominations for this year’s Youth Production Lyrebird awards. The raft of nominations, is testimony to the quality of our annual musical production. Congratulations to all members of the production family.

Further it was exciting to announce the cast for this year’s production of Elf Jr, to be staged in December. Updated information can be found at www.rscproduction.cim.au

In this newsletter, I have included an important update from our College Council President Sharon Rogers, outlining the important work that we are currently engaged with to gain further Capital Works funding for future projects at the College.

From the College Council President

The College Council recently revisited our Standing Orders (or Constitution), in our duty to keep aware, relevant and focused on our governance responsibilities at RSC.

It is an interesting, useful and necessary task to occasionally ask ‘what are we doing, are we fulfilling our obligations, are we doing it well and are we evolving as time, growth and expansion march on?’ All of us on council agree that we are positively impacting the governance, operations and strategic development at RSC, through thoughtful planning, research, discussion, collaboration and strength in partnerships.

That word, ‘partnerships’ is a crucial one. It underpins success and happiness in so many aspects of our lives, both professional and personal, and this week, council focussed on continuing to the build on the positive relationships RSC have with local MPs, by extending invitations to meet up. On Friday Michael Phillips and I will meet first with new labour candidate for Ringwood, Dustin Halse and number 2 upper house candidate Sonja Terpstra and later with liberal MP, Dee Ryall, to advocate for their support in realizing the next stages of redevelopment at RSC (more about what these next stages of works include after the upcoming state election in November).

In 2018, some 10 years since the expansion and modernization ‘journey’ at RSC began, we continue to campaign for the necessary and required funding to complete our building works. It’s been an ongoing, dynamic and exciting journey and one that we are determined to see through to completion. The benefits of completion for our students are vast. State of the Art sports and STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths) precincts will offer endless opportunities for learning and growth with outstanding educational outcomes for all students and the wider community. Our increasing engagement and partnerships with other groups in our community provide positive outcomes that extend beyond the school gates and can only make our college stronger.

Council will continue in its advocacy for the very best learning environments and facilities at RSC and will push on in realizing the vision of a college campus at the heart of a thriving and engaged community.
