Shine Performing Arts Festival
Our Shine Performing Arts Festival was held last week and contributed to an extra atmosphere of excitement and joy across our school. There were daily performances enjoyed by parents, carers, students and staff.
Congratulations and thank you to all students who performed! Thank you to Luke Wharton for coordinating this event and the rest of our fabulous Performing Arts team, Tegan Ferrier (Dance), Reuben McLean (Strings), Kerri Buchanan (Band), Matt Gordon (Rock Band) and Leah Horn (Music and Choir) for their work with students in preparation and throughout the festival.
Thank you also to all adults who attended to watch their children perform. It means a lot to children and to us to have you here for moments like these.

Administration Refurbishment Reminder
The refurbishment of our administration building will commence during the holidays. From today (24/6/21) and throughout Term 3, administration will operate from the end of the library closest to the Music room. Our admin officers (Donna, Carly and Chenoa) will assist parents, carers, students, volunteers and visitors from two service windows due to the limited space available for admin services (i.e. half a library for 9 staff, first aid, meetings, resource preparation etc).
Class borrowing will still be possible throughout the term as the books have been relocated to the other end of the library building.
Before School
Supervision by school staff begins at 8:55am. We discourage arrival at school before 8:30am, unless children are attending scheduled school activities. If children do arrive before 8:30am, they must sit in the area near the tuckshop.
Children who are arrive between 8:30am and 8:55am wait near their classrooms and may do quiet activities such as playing cards, reading and talking to friends. As at all other times, games involving running or large balls are not permitted near or around classrooms for safety reasons.
Exciting Politics - Mock Election
Yesterday, the atmosphere was electric as Yr 4 – 6 participated in a live mock election to support their learning about systems of government. There were candidates, electorates, voting centres, vote counters, voters, security and media. The results of the live vote count were broadcast for students on the hall screen and their iPads, so they were able to see the progress across a range of graphs, just like an actual election.
Commentary was provided throughout the election by a panel, including our special guest, Mrs Laura Gerber Member for Currumbin in the Queensland Parliament. Mrs Gerber answered questions that students posted via their iPads throughout the morning, giving children the opportunity to learn from her insight and experience.
Thank you to Mr Tengdahl for organising this highly engaging and exciting learning event and all the staff who assisted!

Advance Notice: Book Character Costume Day
Our annual Book Character Costume day will be held in Week 6 of Term 3. Children are encouraged to dress in costume as their favourite book character on Friday 20 August and enjoy a day celebrating the love of reading. Team Tally staff are busy planning our costumes and look forward surprising our students with them and our decorations throughout the school on that day.
Year 6 World Trade Fair
I had a wonderful time attending our Year 6 World Trade Fair today. Students did a wonderful job preparing and presenting their trade stalls for their invented countries. This showcased their learning about persuasion, trade, resources, demographics etc. as part of the English and Humanities and Social Sciences curriculum. I was also treated to lessons about the languages of their countries and was able to taste some of the national delicacies.
Our students were very enthusiastic and enjoyed sharing their learning with visiting classes and staff.
Thank you to the Year 6 teaching team for their excellent work teaching and inspiring our students!
