Wellbeing

Remote Learning 5.0 What words would you use to describe this?

I asked a few children at school today. There were mixed responses. Some children were really happy learning this way and others didn’t really have much to say.

What I do know is there have been some super ‘bucket fillers’ in many families, children who have a great sense of gratitude as they list things to be thankful for and children who can receive much joy collecting pieces of nature from the school playground to create a special piece of artwork. Observing a group of Prep children supported by a Year 2 child, led to the completion of this wonderful image in the photos below. Mrs. Stewart was suitably impressed! What great teamwork and collaboration. Well done.

On Tuesday I joined a webinar ‘Get your child’s mojo back and tips for homeschooling’ led by Andrew Fuller, a clinical psychologist specialising in the wellbeing of young people and their families. He had so many valuable thoughts and suggestions for families during this complex time of being together. I hope some of you were able to register for this event before it reached capacity which unfortunately happened very quickly.

Andrew spoke about learning being a science and that young children are all scientists, free to have a go. This is what we hope for all of our children at the moment, that they are having a go with their learning, attending Zooms, completing tasks with some enthusiasm and planning for the return to school. The teachers are!

One memorable thought Andrew shared was about family rituals. He said they make a gigantic difference to children’s wellbeing during lockdown. What are some of the rituals you share as a family?

Regular walks? Pizza night? Movie night? Bike rides? Music night? Dance-a-thon?

Enjoy these rituals.

I hope to see all the children back at OLHC next Wednesday

Keep well

CHILD SAFETY

During Term 3 Wellbeing class sessions, Prep - Year 6 will have a focus on Child Safety using the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum. It has been developed by the Department of Education in partnership with the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. The curriculum is based around three key messages:

Recognise, React and Report.

Please take a few minutes to read more about this curriculum learning on the flyer below. There are parent resources available for further information.
