Primary Years Program at GGLPS

GGLPS teaches the Australian curriculum using the Primary Years Program (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate as a framework to impart this. There are many different aspects to the Teaching and Learning program of the school and these are some of the rich learning experiences in which the students are involved.

Have you ever wondered… ‘Which skills will my child need in the future of this ever-changing world?’

‘The IB Learner Profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB World Schools. We believe these attributes, and others like them can help individuals and groups become responsible members of local, national, and global communities.’ (International Baccalaureate Organization, 2013). The ten Learner Profile Attributes that describe a learner are;

  1. Inquirers
  2. Knowledgeable
  3. Thinkers
  4. Communicators
  5. Principled
  6. Open-Minded
  7. Caring
  8. Risk-Takers
  9. Balanced and
  10. Reflective

As educators, we strive to enable each child to adopt these qualities as a learner throughout their learning journey at primary school. When planning future units of inquiry, teachers carefully choose several Learner Profile Attributes that would best be suited to support learners during the inquiry process. The Learner Profile Attributes also represent a skill that will be established or built upon by learners within a particular unit of inquiry, whilst being facilitated by the teacher.

Throughout the GGLPS learning community, you may notice the Learner Profile Attributes through classroom displays of units of inquiry as well as in Essential Agreements (which differ from class to class, and which are regularly reviewed and altered to suit the needs of the learning community). I encourage you to discuss the Learner Profile Attributes with your child, identify and celebrate those in which they feel most confident in demonstrating in their learning!
