P&C Appreciation Day

Please see below the speech presented by Kymberly Ritchie P&C President  at the P&C Appreciation Day

Thank you for having me, it's great to be up here speaking on behalf of the P&C.

This week I received a letter from WACCSO which is the organisation that governs P&Cs in Western Australia. In the email was a letter forwarded from Lisa Rodgers - the Director-General of the Education Department.

Her letter said that last year P&C's across Western Australia contributed $13 million dollars to schools which is an average of a little over $20,000 per P&C.

I am pleased to tell you that at the halfway mark of this year, our Burrendah Primary School P&C has already raised $21,000. Everyone who buys a Mother’s Day gift, donates goods, purchases from the Book Club, minds the children of P&C members, and supports other various P&C events, is contributing to this success.

This year, the P&C had the vision to provide fun events for students and their families to help create happy memories of their time at primary school.

These events also help us with our goal of raising enough money to fund a nature playground for our school. We have already raised a significant amount, but we have quite a way to go yet.

Please continue to support the P&C this year as we bring you fun events and fundraisers to which you can all contribute.

Our P&C cannot run without the hard work of our volunteers each year. Personally, being a member of the P&C has helped me to feel more connected to the school community, plus, I have made friends with parents I probably would otherwise not have met.

So, if any parents here today are considering joining, and especially if you are new to the school, there are plenty of opportunities for you to get involved - the more hands we have, the lighter the work.

Last term the P&C hosted a quiz night which was a lot of fun and a huge success. Whilst I am up here, I must make a special mention to the local businesses who were major sponsors for our quiz night. Thank you to Taylored Electrical, CY Financial Advice, WA Custom Glass, Scrappy MMA, Dr Jags, and Hyden Hotel Wave Rock for their generous support.

Lastly, thank you to Mrs Kininment and the administration staff for arranging this appreciation day and to all the staff who brought in lovely plates of morning tea which the adults (sorry kids!) will get to enjoy shortly. All parents and guardians are welcome to join us for a cuppa.
