In our unit, ‘Where we are in place and time’, we have been learning about the features of different civilisations. They all have things like writing, art and architecture, cities, jobs and governments. We have been using evidence as proof of what happened in the past. Evidence can tell us what people in the past, like Ancient Egypt, have done or how they lived. Some examples of evidence of Ancient Egypt are tombs, hieroglyphs, pyramids and monuments. We are enjoying learning about Ancient Egypt and discovering all the people in the past, like Tutankhamun. We are learning that little objects can give us a lot of information about history. Over the past two weeks we have been learning about Ancient Egypt. We have looked at evidence to learn about civilisations in the past. We learnt about how Tutankahman’s tomb was found and we also learnt about Howard Carter the archeologist. Looking at the evidence helped us to understand more about the civilisation of the Ancient Egyptians. We explored photos from inside the tomb and the Valley of the Kings and we read texts to learn more about Tuthankahman. To deepen our perspective we went into character as Howard Carter and we learnt what a curious risk-taker he was. We wrote a letter pretending to be Howard Carter and described his adventure. In one of our Maths units this term we learnt all about 3D shapes. We explored the properties of 3D shapes including the name of the shape, the number of vertices, faces and edges and the shape of all of the faces. We made 3D shapes out of matches and blue tack and we made 3D shapes out of nets as well. Abi and Harry are very knowledgeable about 3D shapes and taught all of us new 3D shapes, like the quora and oblate spheroid and other cool shapes. We now know the difference between prisms and pyramids and lots of other interesting information about 3D shapes! By Ale Genovesi, Scarlett French, Abi Macculloch
This is a photo of all of us recording our prior knowledge of 3D shapes.
