From the Principal

I am sure that you have heard Wednesday’s announcement from the Premier regarding the current lockdown. The decision to restore face-to-face learning for Year 12 on Monday 16 August provides some certainty for our students. I acknowledge the efforts of everyone in Years 7 to 11 and their families, as your ability to continue learning from home for an additional four weeks enables the Year 12 return.

We remain open for students who must attend during Weeks 4 and 5, but we thank you for helping everyone stay safe by learning from home. This is a challenging time, and we hope that the extension of the current measures means that we can come together as a school safely and on schedule.

We continue to provide information in this rapidly changing environment. Please check Compass regularly to stay informed.

A bright spot at present is seeing some of the outstanding work our students are producing under unusual circumstances. I congratulate students for staying the course. Our experiences show us that things like keeping a routine, being organised, getting some exercise and fresh air and taking regular meal breaks help a great deal. It’s hard at the moment, so support yourself by approaching this as just a period in your life. This will end, you will be back here with your friends, and when you’re old you’ll be able to tell your grandkids about the time you couldn’t go out. If you aren’t doing so, try keeping a journal, whether it’s in a notebook, or digital, or a vlog. There will come a time when this will seem so odd you might want to look back.

I’ll add also – be kind to your parents. They’re trying to look after you and do their regular job, so make them a cup of tea and have a conversation with them. They’ll like it, and you might too.

Stay safe, and I hope we see you soon.
