Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back to Term 3!  Despite the wet and wintery weather, the term has started well, with students quickly settling back into the school routine.

In celebration of NAIDOC week, this week our classes have been continuing to focus on building cultural understanding through the integration of Aboriginal knowledge and culture in class learning.  Examples of this has included learning about the seasons and developing poetry through the connection of personal perspectives with aspects such as landscapes, animals, plants, colours and food.

Some beautiful new books (above) which some of our classes have explored for NAIDOC week.

Over the holidays, new flooring was laid in the canteen, girls’ bathroom, the OSHC room and 3/4 and 4/5 classrooms.  Our sincere thanks to Kath and the OSHC team who facilitated the task of moving furniture and equipment while also delivering the vacation program.  This was a massive undertaking, but the results are fantastic.  Our thanks also to our cleaners, Frank and Gina, for their support and assistance throughout this process.

After multiple postponements, the Division Cross Country event was held yesterday.  Congratulations to all participating students on their achievement and navigation of a very cold, wet and muddy course.  As a result of their achievement, Kirsty (2nd), Hamish (8th) and Massimo (12th) will now go on to compete in the regional final next week, in Benalla.

Ongoing wet weather has meant that our previously postponed tree planting event has again been postponed for another week.  At this stage, we are hoping this can go ahead next Thursday, but this will be confirmed when we have a better idea of the weather conditions.

The Wodonga Winter Sports Carnival (years 4-6), which was planned for tomorrow, has also been postponed and is now scheduled for Monday 26th July.

Congratulations to Murray Yellow who finished last semester in 1st place on 245 points.  They were closely followed by Indigo Blue (232 points), Mitta Red (226 points) and Kiewa Green (165 points).  House points will continue to be awarded to students in recognition of our values and also for bringing ‘Nude Food’ to school.

Expressions of interest is invited from families wishing to participate in the Buller Interschools Skiing competition in August.  Registrations close this week, so please contact the school asap if you would like to participate.

Thank you to everyone for their support of our SRC fundraising through our casual dress and dress up days.  As a result, we have been able to donate $379.40 towards providing backpack swags for people experiencing homelessness.
