What's happening in the classrooms

Towards the end of Term 2, the Year 4 and 5 children participated in a Eucharist workshop. This event culminated in their learning about the sacrament both as a Paschal mystery and a thanksgiving celebration. A simple but meaningful liturgy preceded the workshop where they watched Nonna’s Bread, made bread and shared a meal. They designed a banner with the different symbols of the Eucharist, which can be placed in a prayer space at home. They learnt that as Jesus Christ is present through his loving thoughts, words and actions in the celebration of the Mass, they can also be present to others through listening, speaking and action.

Congratulations to Mercy, Ian, Frankie, Ishani, William, Clara, Simon, Tadhg, Willow and Nathaniel for receiving the Sacrament of First Communion. We continuously pray that you are conferred with the grace of the Holy Spirit as you receive Christ himself.

Before the term ended, the Middle and Senior school children explored ways to serve others and planned to help those who are in need in our community. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about St Vincent’s Winter Appeal and how we can help.

Through the big concept of Systems, in Term 3,  the students will continue to explore the Holy Spirit in action in their parish. They will learn about how the Holy Spirit inspired the early Christians and how it continues to be active in people’s lives today. The students will explore the qualities of Spirit-filled people and will reflect on what it means for them personally to be Spirit-filled people. The main focus will also be the sacrament of Confirmation. They will examine the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit and how these enable people to contribute to the mission of the Church. They will explore the lives of saints, as well as reflecting on their own role in using the gifts to contribute to our faith community. The students will identify ways in which they can use their gifts and talents to serve God and others.
