Ms. Christine Barnes - Head of Health, Wellness and Sport

Last week the majority of our teams played their first-round fixtures against St Peters Lutheran College and with mixed results, although St Peters proved itself to be a very good opposition. It was great that we played a few very tough games in this first round as it has motivated the coaches and girls to really target specific aspects of our training and game development this week at training. This week all fixtures are at our home grounds, please see the full schedule on the College app, daily notices and the Croc Board.

Netball

We are still chasing up 1 more netball umpire for the weekend so if you have any contacts, please let Ms Christine Barnes know, not just for this week but all remaining rounds. Could I please also put out a request to our netball parents to assist with scoring at our home venue. If you can assist, please contact Ms Chantal Carter or Netball Coordinator at ccarter@clayfield.qld.edu.au

Training for all Winter Fixture Sports

Training will resume as normal next week, again please refer to the schedule on the College app and Croc boards at school. Could I please ask for parent support to ensure your daughter attends both training sessions where possible to allow the coaches and teams the best opportunity to develop our competitiveness in the field of play across all sports.

QGSSSA Athletics

The Inter-House Athletics carnival was a great success yesterday with girls putting every effort into the events they competed in. A full wrap up of results will be in next week’s edition once we have delivered the results to the girls at assembly. At least 4 records were broken yesterday and a final check will occur today to see if there were others. These results will be delivered next week also but will also make an appearance on our social media postings prior to next week. A full team squad will be posted on Friday morning tea on the Croc board and College app.

QG Athletics training will be for all QG identified students commencing next week.  Monday afternoons at Bowden Park will be the one compulsory session for all students and all girls should attend one of the other 2 morning sessions to ensure we keep developing prior to QG Aths in the last week of term. A bus list will go up tomorrow for all girls to sign-up for Monday’s first QG squad compulsory training session.

To also help us prepare, QGSSSA has partnered with UQ Athletics this year to run a 6 session meet series running from Friday 6 August - Tuesday 10 September. Clayfield will be attending 4 of the 6 meets and further details will be published in the coming weeks. Our first meet will be Friday 6 August. A bus list will go up next Wednesday for girls to sign-up for this first meet.

Volleyball Academy

The Clayfield Volleyball Academy will recommence the first day back on Monday 12 July 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm in the PE Centre. Currently, we have 22 girls registered to be part of the academy. Please see Ms Barnes if you are keen to join to collect the paperwork. Any girls who have left the program MUST send an email to confirm this or payments will still be added to your College fees.
