We are delighted to have Ms. Kelsey Lahey join us as the College Counsellor. Her warm and welcoming approach, coupled with her breadth of experience has been met with positivity by the students and families she has supported in this short span of time. Kelsey’s role at Clayfield College will see her provide support to students 1:1 in a temporary capacity and assist with the education of our students in small groups through their Personal Development and Wellbeing and Foundations lessons.

Hello, I’m Kelsey Lahey and I am excited to be the College Counsellor at Clayfield College.

After completing a Bachelor of Behavioural Science at the Queensland University of Technology, I went on to complete a Master of Counselling at the University of Queensland. My study took me to the Gold Coast, where I supported young people experiencing grief and loss. I then completed a placement in Brisbane as a counsellor and group facilitator with young people in an educational and community setting. After completing this placement, I was offered a full-time role where I worked therapeutically with young people in an outreach capacity. I have also had the privilege of supporting young people and their communities in India, Nepal and Vietnam. Beginning in 2015, I worked as a child and family counsellor in collaboration with Child Safety to support the emotional, psychological, and social needs of young people.

I am passionate about mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. I firmly believe that supporting our young people in an educational setting is key as it provides the foundation on which future success is built. It’s important for me to make genuine connections and build strong relationships with the students and their families in order to promote and nurture student wellbeing.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, the beach and strolling through West End or the Powerhouse markets. I love travelling and am looking forward to the day where I can revisit India. I try and watch the sunset each day and am known to call my friends and family suggesting they do the same!

If you feel your child would benefit from a discussion with Kelsey, please contact your child’s Core Teacher in the Primary School or Head of Year in the Secondary School.
