Table Tennis - Friday 4th June
Jonathan, Jayden and Steven competed in the mixed team competition at Table Tennis Primary Schools winning 1st place. Their team drew with the Highgate Boys Team. Highgate went on to win the finals. Good representation from Linden Park Primary and Highgate Primary. Well done boys and a great representation for Magill School.
SAPSASA Netball Competition - Boys
On Wednesday 16th June, the selected team of Year 6/7 boys attended a knockout netball competition held at Morialta Uniting Church. Throughout the day the boys played two games against Ardtornish Primary and Trinity Gardens Primary.
The day presented a high level of skills and team spirit shown by all teams, making for a competitive day of play. The results for the day were as followed:
Game 1:
Trinity Gardens (26) defeated Magill (25)
Game 2:
Magill (31) defeated Ardtornish (13)
With one win and one loss, unfortunately Magill were knocked out of the competition, with Trinity Gardens moving to round 2 as the winners of the day.
Excellent effort and enthusiasm was shown throughout the day. Some fantastic defending shown by Gunoor B, Bodhi H, Joel L and Thomas V. Quick speed and run through mid-court presented by Joel B, Archie W, Emmett O and Kase M and some precise shooting from Kobe D and Ari T. It was an absolute pleasure coaching the boys and seeing their interest in the game and skills develop over the past few weeks.

SAPSASA Football Competition - Boys
The forecast was not very promising for the Boys Round 1 Round-Robin matches against Greenwith Primary, Trinity Gardens School and Rostrevor College. Wet and windy conditions were the norm across the day, with marking being a difficult skill to complete for all schools.
Our first two games saw us compete against strong teams from Greenwith and Rostrevor, where ultimately a bit more experience and composure saw the Magill boys fall short.
It was game three and a seriously wintery front (which brought small hail with it) that snapped us into action against Trinity Gardens. Heavy rain meant that we had to rely on our hard running and discipline to move the ball forward, with a number of scoring opportunities coming from players who were willing to take on the challenge. Joel B (F3) and Xavier S (F2) were pivotal in clearing the ball from contests, while Noah B's (F2) size and strength in the ruck was also a deciding factor. Shifting between attack and defence, Bohdi H (F2) kicked 2 goals and Lazarus J (F1) proved to be a key to victory earning several scoring attempts and 4 goals. This game really was one where the old cliché ‘All Played Well’ rings true. A special mention to those in the team for whom this was their first football experience, Khanh P (F2), Joel L (F2) and Kobe D (F4), as well as our first Year 5 participant Loki B (F11), who showed promising signs for the future.
SAPSASA Football Competition - Girls
Similar to 2020, the Girls Football Team was off to Trinity Gardens to compete against Trinity and Greenwith Primary. Although it was a cool and dewy start to the day, there were fantastic conditions for football.
With a significant number of players not having touched a football prior to any sort of training session at school, our main goal for the day was to improve with each game, quarter and contest.
Our first match against Trinity Gardens saw us tackle a much more experienced opponent, who took advantage of some quick centre clearances and built up a decent lead. This match was a big learning curve, with the girls quickly seeing the importance of running with the ball and using their kicking skills, even if it was to kick to space for a teammate to run on to.
Game 2 for Magill was a dead rubber against Greenwith, with Trinity Gardens having already won through to the second round. Nonetheless, this was a hotly contested encounter, with the physicality and contested nature significantly lifting. It was very pleasing to see that our girls did not shy away from the contest, with Ela J (F14), Matilda P (F2) and Monique R (F13) leading the way. Special mentions to Lara C (F15) for her continuous run and effort and Alannah P (F14) for her long, effective kicks out of defence.
After being held scoreless in our first match, we continued to push for that elusive goal, with the team’s hard work paying off in the 2nd quarter. Monique R confidently marked in front of goal and converted her set shot, giving Magill their first score of the day. From this point the contest tightened up, with the girls seeming to grow in confidence, pushing on to challenge Greenwith and score a further 1.1 for the match.
A big thank you to the volunteers on both days, Stuart Bown, Simon Heath and Jamie Vickers for the boys and Chris Williams and Claire Creighton for the girls. Your time and effort is greatly appreciated.
SAPSASA Soccer Competition - Girls
At the end of Term 2 both our SAPSASA soccer teams, girls and boys, played Round 1 of the knockout soccer competition. The draw gave us the chance to compete against the same schools in both girls and boys competition, Cornerstone College and Greenwith Primary Schools.
Round 1 was a very good opportunity to have an interesting excursion since Cornerstone College was able to organise all the matches at their grounds located in Mount Barker. Despite rainy weather it was a very exciting day for our Year 6 and 7 students as they enjoyed travelling by bus to Mount Barker.
The weather was not our friend but both our teams could perform at a good level and achieve some good results. Both teams lost their first game to Greenwith Primary School. The boys had a close game but were defeated 3 - 1.
The second game against Cornerstone College was a real come back for both our teams, winning their matches in high scoring games. The girls won 3 - 2 and the boys won 8 – 3. Everyone could hear our Magill players cheering. This gave all the players a very positive feeling of the day and set the mood to enjoy the journey back to school while singing on the bus.
Special thank you to our parent helpers Claire Creighton for support and Joerg Tan for coaching the teams.
