Police Cadet Camp

Police Cadets

Police Cadets is a Leadership program for Year 10 students. It gives students the opportunity to develop an understanding of leadership, develop their skills in leading and working with teams and opportunities to push themselves out of their comfort zone.

Twenty three intrepid Year 10 students participated in a leadership camp from 24th to 26th May near Lake Eildon.  They were organised in teams where they had to be self-sufficient, set up camp in tents, cook for themselves and participate in a range of activities that were designed to challenge their group cooperation skills, develop their resilience and give opportunities to demonstrate their leadership.

They built a raft, conquered crossing a lake, rafted down the Goulburn River, cycled a specialist Mountain biking course, participated in High Ropes and solved team challenges.  They learnt a lot about both themselves and their peers.

The students both had fun and learnt a lot about themselves as evidenced by the quotes below:

'The 2017 Eildon Leadership camp was a great way to learn about how I work with my peers. My group worked well to overcome the challenges put in front of us, together using teamwork we were able to get out of our comfort zones and complete challenges.' - Kayla

‘I learnt so much about myself on this camp. No matter how many times you fail, you have to keep going. One of the hardest things that I had to face was bike riding, because I don't usually do it, but I kept going, despite the pain in my back and the mud on my legs, I knew I had to do it for myself to challenge myself. I had to make sure I had a go at every aspect of this experience.’  Grace

Camp Eildon 2017 was a camp that pushed us out of our comfort zone to achieve things that we wouldn’t normally achieve at home. I found the cooking difficult and the fact that we were not allowed to throw any food into the environment (I mean tiny left overs) and including compost such as fruit. The High Ropes course was challenging and involved teamwork in order to complete the whole course. I found that challenging.’ Luke

‘Never quit because if you give it your all, success will always be in reach.’ Colby

Everyone can be a leader if you give it a try and step out of your comfort zone.’  Lachlan

"You never know what you can achieve until you put yourself out there and do it, Police Cadets  allows you to do that and be a leader when you didn’t think you had it in you!"  Josie
