Important Sport Information
Throughout the school year expectations for student participation in inter-school sport has been given to students and parents through a range of means (Compass, email, college newsletter). Students have also been informed of these expectations during Year Level assemblies.
The following points are contained within the policy:
- All students must provide written or electronic consent and payment via Compass strictly 2 days prior to the event to be eligible to play.
- Students must attend all sports events in full Wantirna PE uniform (unless stated otherwise on the consent form).
We understand that some families have not always been able to easily access Compass. If this is the case students have been informed to contact Mr Black before the due date (i.e. prior to 2 days before the event) so alternative arrangements can be made.
To assist students and parents getting consent and payment in on time we:
- email every student of each sporting team reminding them of the expectations
- In addition to this, all parents are notified by email prompting them to provide consent and payment by the due date
Students and parents will need to check their email regularly as this is the main form of communication
Unfortunately, there have been situations which have resulted in several students being ineligible to attend sporting activities. Setting the two-day prior deadline ensures we have adequate time to prepare and organise each team before and on the morning of competition. This may be up to 120 students, which makes it complex. The work we must do in this time is:
- Confirmation of team numbers and attendance sent to the competition organising group. Sometimes students nominate to participate in a sport, but then do not turn up on the day. Payment of the $10 fee and permission is a good indicator that the student will attend.
- Confirming bus bookings and staffing for the day
- Organising the correct number of uniforms and sports equipment
- Printing off all event information for sports coaches
- Organising first aid kits, including allergy and anaphylaxis packs for particular students
- Ensure we meet the legal requirements of an excursion
We hope that this information will assist you in understanding why we need to keep to the policy of having consent and payment two days prior to the event.
Thank you for your assistance and understanding with this process.
