Testing Times: Year 10 and 11 Exams
The school took on a very different feel this week as students began their semester exams and the real winter weather kicked in. There have been Year 10 and 11 students studying and preparing during their free time in every warm space around the College.
Exams in these year levels are a very important part of the preparation for Year 12 VCE. Students experience a large exam room for the first time and come to understand the rules and protocols that come with such an environment. They learn the formality of the process particularly when their exams are not supervised by their classroom teachers.
Along with Bootcamp in Year 10 the exam experience assists students in developing their organisational skills and their ability to revise independently.
We have been excited with the feedback from the Year 11 students about how useful Edrolo has been in assisting them to prepare for their exams. At this stage we are still trialing the program and we will be making a decision about whether we continue for Semester 2 at the end of term.
Special thanks to all the staff who have been involved in organising our exam program. It is amazing to see the effort that goes into making our exams as streamlined as they are. Acknowledgement also to the teachers who have written exams (it's not as easy as one might imagine) and to those who will spending their weekends marking said exams.
Reporting and Assessment Day
Term 2 is always very busy for students and teachers in terms of assessment. Students have been working hard over the past couple of weeks to complete a range of Common Assessment Items.
Next Friday, June 9th is our Reporting and Assessment day. Teachers will be moderating and finalising their assessments of these task to prepare for the semester reports. It is important that students have completed and submitted all required work by this date. Students are not required at school on this day. Those who are in VCE should be undertaking preparation and pre- reading activities for Semester 2 whilst at home.
Ongoing Feedback and Reports
Just a quick reminder to parents and students that teachers are providing feedback on learning tasks on Compass throughout the semester. These comments should give students a clear idea where they need to focus their energies in order to improve their learning. These comments will not be included on the semester reports.
The semester reports will include the following:
- assessment of learning behaviors
- assessment of learning outcomes (VCE)
- assessment of each unit/topic (7-10)
- whether students have satisfied learning outcomes or satisfactorily completed units of work
