VCAL RSPCA Fundraiser

RSPCA DAY

A major learning outcome in Year 11 VCAL is for students to plan and organise a complex project or activity. This year the students decided to organise an RSPCA Day at the school to raise money and awareness for the RSPCA and their values. The students began their planning by learning more about the RSPCA through visiting the Education Centre at the RSPCA Burwood Campus. Leaving there with lots of motivation and excitement, the students planned to organise a number of different activities that formed RSPCA Day at the school.

Students were split into different groups and were responsible for organising different activities on the day. The activities included; organising a Home Group Competition that asked all Wantirna College students and teachers to donate items such as blankets, food and toys. Selling RSPCA approved Bacon and Egg Rolls (free range eggs & sow stall free bacon) and Veggie Burgers. Toy making stations were organised at lunchtime that allowed students to make rope and paper mache toys.

The VCAL students that are studying Building and Construction decided to put their skills to the test and made a Banner and ‘Foraging Boxes’. The boxes will assist the RSPCA in rehabilitating dogs that have come from puppy farms from all around Victoria. Wantirna College would like to thank Bunnings Vermont South for donating the materials that allowed us to design and build these products.

RSPCA Day was a massive success with lots of items donated, toys made and the BBQ selling out of drinks and burgers. Thank you to everyone who donated, if you still would like to get involved, the RSPCA are asking for used towels, sheets and blankets that can be used for bedding. If you would like more information please visit their website or email bro@wantirnacollege.vic.edu.au.

On May 23rd, the Year 11 VCAL students organised and ran RSPCA day. The day consisted of a BBQ, toy making, a banner, a donation drive/ home group competition and a whole lot of fun. The day was a huge success and the whole school got involved which was really good. We collected heaps of donations, made a lot of toys, built many boxes, and raised a lot of money from the BBQ. The RSPCA were very happy with our efforts and impressed with the amount of donations collected. They said that it was the biggest school donation they had ever received. The RSPCA brought in a photographer from the Knox Leader to do a photo shoot with our donations, 2 of our students and a dog from the RSPCA. The article will feature in the Knox Leader in the coming weeks. Thank you to everyone who got involved and helped us raise money and awareness for the RSPCA.
