Technician Access – for any computer network issues or to borrow netbooks

Please note that beginning in 2019, there will only be access to a technician (Ashley) from Monday to Thursday from 8:30am-4:30pm.  He is now located at the other end of B-wing, near the old office (in the old Accounts Receivable office).

If students need to borrow a Netbook on Friday’s, they MUST do so before school to borrow it.  A staff member will be available to distribute Netbooks for use during the day only in the morning from 8:45-9:00am.  Students must then return it at the end of the day ONLY, between 3:05-3:25pm.  Do not leave the netbook if there is no one there.  It is the student’s responsibility it is returned safely and on time.

If students need to set up a BYOD, please collect a form from outside the Technician office, take it home to complete it and bring it back, with the BYOD, between 8:30am-4:30pm Monday – Thursday so Ashley can set it up.

If students have not yet collected their old Netbook from being reimaged last year, please see Ashley at your earliest convenience.  Please also get a BYOD form to complete if it is to be reconnected to the school’s network.

Password Issues

Due to the “Password policy” requirements, a majority of “STUDENT” passwords have expired over the holidays.  As such, a school wide password reset for students occurred during Week 1.  Every password was reset to the following:

GC2019!

You will be required to change your password when you are back at school.  Please refer to the DigiTech Access Guide on Compass for details on how to change your password.  It is located in the School Documentation section of Compass in the Community tab.  Please look in the Netbook Program folder.

Installing Microsoft Office Suite

All Greensborough College students can have a free copy of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) installed on their computers.  Details on how to install the programs and how to activate them are located in the School Documentation section of Compass in the Community tab.  Please look in the Netbook Program folder.

Using Compass

Compass is where you get access to your timetable, chronicle, learnings tasks, news feed, email, etc.It is very important that all students are checking Compass regularly, and reading the news feed daily in particular.Teachers and staff use the news feed to advise about upcoming activities, homework and other important information that is not communicated in any other manner. It is also a place to access your class work, notes the teacher has made, assessment results, reports and your analytical data, as well as a lot of other resources. If you are unsure how to use Compass, please speak to one of your teachers or come see Ms Ramos or Ashley for some pointers.
