Music Program

Greensborough College music program offers a wide variety of musical experiences and has a number of vibrant performing groups. Our program includes music camps, tours and concerts. This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to experience the joy of making music and we strongly encourage you to consider taking music at Greensborough College.

Music is a discipline that requires students to commit their time, energy and concentration. Excellence can only be achieved through hard work and we believe that our quest for excellence will benefit students in social and academic outcomes as well as in their musical skills.

It is only through performance that the skills of music are developed and refined. Greensborough College encourages all students to regularly participate in public performances.

The Instrumental Program

Note: Instrumental Music is Optional

Students undertaking Instrumental Music are required to commit to the program for the entire year.

The Program consists of:

a) Weekly Lesson

A small group or individual lesson that is held in class time on a rotating timetable

(A different subject is missed each week, students are responsible for following up on any work missed)

b) Ensemble Group

A weekly ensemble/band practice or choir rehearsal

(Held either in class time, at lunch, after or before school depending on the group)

c) School Concerts and other Performances.

Instrument Hire

Greensborough College has a number of instruments that are available for hire. A FEE IS CHARGED FOR HIRING A SCHOOL INSTRUMENT.  Year 7 students will not be charged for hire.  Please note that students who wish to learn Percussion/Drum Kit, Guitar, Bass Guitar or Keyboard must own their own instrument.

Instrument Selection

Music staff will allocate students to instruments considering the student’s prior experience, testing results and availability/ownership of instruments.  Students should not put their hopes on any particular instrument as there may not be a place available. It is our experience that students will make good progress on ANY instrument if they commit to regular practice.
