Year 10 Work Experience - 2017

8th – 12th May 2017
The dates for work experience for 2017 have been finalised. All Year 10 students will complete work experience from
8th – 12th May. We will hold an assembly with Year 9 students next week during Early Commencement to inform them about the process of obtaining work experience for next year.
We will hand out two booklets to students;
- Student Booklet with hints on how to find work experience. It also has a sample application letter and sample resume.
- Official Forms Booklet which needs to be completed once the student has obtained work experience.
Due to new regulations, the official forms have been updated for 2017. One of the main changes has been the introduction of Child Safe Standards which are compulsory minimum standards for organisations that provide services for children to help ensure their safety.
Work Experience is a valuable component of the school curriculum and we encourage students to finalise their placements now as competition for placements is great.
Students are encouraged to try to find work experience in an area that they would like to pursue as a career. Work Experience is a good opportunity for them to find out about career opportunities.
The Work Experience Co-ordinators are here to assist students with this process, but we encourage students to take the initiative in finding their own placement. Occupational Health and Safety Units and official paperwork will need to be completed before students are able to complete their work experience. We will complete the general module for Safe @ Work during Early Commencement. Students will need their netbooks for this activity.
- The official forms need to be completed by the employer, parent and student and handed back to us as soon as possible.
There are extra Travel and Accommodation Forms included in the official paperwork for Work Experience.
If a student is likely to be travelling in a car with an employee/employer either to work, from work or during the day, the travel form needs to be completed by the employer and parent/guardian.
If a student is staying away from home overnight during Work Experience, the Accommodation Form also needs to be completed.
There is also a medical form on the back page. This needs to be completed and signed by Parents/Guardians, even if there is no medical condition.
There are also a number of restrictions on work experience placements.
- Students must be 15 years of age by May 8th, 2017 in order to undertake Work Experience. (Please see us if you are under 15).
- Work Experience in the trades and building industry requires approval by the Work Experience Co-ordinators and the Principal as well as “White Card Training” and accreditation. This training will be organised by the school before Work Experience next year and costs approximately $60. Therefore it is essential that students who are thinking of completing Work Experience in the trade area gain a placement as soon as possible and return the Work Experience form for approval.
- Work Experience with animals has many restrictions. There are strict guidelines in place which need to be followed and extra forms to complete which need approval. These forms can be obtained from the Careers Office - J8. Students who are interested in working with animals need to gain their placement as soon as possible and seek approval from the Work Experience Co-ordinators.
Official forms are due back to the Careers Co-ordinators by Friday 10th March, 2017 at the latest. We are located in J 8-Careers Office.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further information or assistance regarding Work Experience.
