Principal's Report

VCE Results
I wish to congratulate our Class of 2016 for their excellent VCE results. Our Year 12s this year worked very hard on their studies and remained focused to the end. They have all worked well together and have continued to contribute to all aspects of life at school. We are very proud of all of them.
Matthew Walker is our 2016 DUX, who earned a score of 99.55. This is our highest achieving DUX in the history of Greensborough College.
He is joined with 8 students who were also awarded scores in the 90s. We then had another 11 students with scores in the 80s.
There were thirty three 40+ scores across 18 subjects; Biology, Business Management, Chemistry, English, Food and Technology, Health and Human Development, Literature,
Italian, Persian, Further Maths, Specialist Maths, Math Methods, Physical Education, Physics, Psychology, Studio Arts, VET Sport and Recreation, Visual Communication and Design.
Not every student can achieve a result in the 90s. Many of our students have achieved a score which for them is a personal best and they have reached their goal, setting a clear path into University to study their chosen field. Here at Greensborough College we pride ourselves on unlocking the potential of all our students. We are not a selective school, but welcome all students with a range of abilities and future career aspirations. The education we offer is focused on the whole child and the value of what is learnt here at Greensborough College is much broader than what can be encapsulated in an ATAR score. I congratulate our students who have achieved their personal best. With students who are disappointed and perhaps wishing they had worked a bit harder for this year, I encourage you to keep your results in perspective. Our Careers team have been working with our graduates to help them realise the course or study that will be right for them. In the end, the ATAR is only a number, which is a limited measure of a school career and it cannot hope to measure the value of an individual. As a school we have been fortunate, our 2016 results are fantastic, the best in our College history.
I would also like to publicly acknowledge our teaching staff who achieved these wonderful results with their students. I know that they are very proud of the results. I also congratulate our parents, who have encouraged and supported their children through the highs and lows of the final VCE year. Congratulations once again to our graduating Class of 2016 on their excellent results. It really is pleasing to see that their hard work, determination and perseverance has been rewarded.
Rebuild
As we prepare for the holidays and the wind down of the school year, our rebuild program continues to move full steam ahead. Our team will continue to meet during the holidays as we finalise our tender documents for the end of January.
Whilst there have been some unavoidable delays with our rebuild plans, we are tracking extremely well. New buildings to complement 21st century learning further enhancing our continued focus on students. A brand new Performing Arts precinct including new Home Economics facilities and canteen, new competitive sized Sports Hall, our new Pavilion encompassing the Senior School Innovation Centre and Visual Arts zone. With the plans involving building first followed by demolition, there should be no disruptions to our students, classrooms or learning programs. We have already begun building preparation, with the preparation and removal of our F-wing portables, clearing the area for building works to begin.
Staffing
As a school it is not often we say goodbye to staff who are moving on to new schools. I would like to acknowledge the staff who we are saying good bye to this year. We are farewelling Kevin Tardif, who has been the Leader of our Humanities Team and a much loved English teacher. Ashleigh Hosier, who was here with us at the College for 2016 working as a member of our PE Health Area and Harpreet Sethi has been working as a member of the Science, Maths and Digital Technologies team for the majority of this year. I would like to thank them all for their commitment to our College and we wish them all the best in their new roles.
Jim Ringin, who has been replacing Graeme Scott whilst on leave, will continue with us next year. I would like to welcome Pauline Barker who will be joining us here at the College as our Acting Principal whilst I enjoy some Long Service Leave from the beginning of next year. I know you will make Pauline feel welcome to our College.
