Sports Report

At this point of the year I would like to remind all parents and students of two important aspects of the College Sporting Program:

Firstly, that correct school sports uniform must be worn to all inter-school sporting competitions or students will not be able to participate so please purchase the required items of clothing from the uniform shop as necessary – this includes tracksuit pants to venues on colder days. Coloured “House shirts” must also be worn to compete in any inter-House sporting event so it will be important for all students to keep track of when these will be running on the special House Afternoons allocated in the Calendar and at lunchtimes.

The school’s sporting Code of Behaviours document that includes our cultural framework/vision for the sporting program has already been distributed to all families and we are asking that all parents and students understand the importance of adhering to these behaviours and if you would like to raise any issue you might have that you do so in the appropriate forum with the relevant coach, manager or head of that sport.

House Athletics

The annual House Athletics Sports are to be held on Friday 6th March at Pedrina Park, commencing at 9.10am. There are lots of opportunities for all the students to participate on the day with a full program and track and field events running simultaneously – only the 1500m events are being held before the day at lunchtimes on the school oval. This has meant I will need as many parents and friends of the college to volunteer to assist during the day so please contact me if you are interested in helping for all or part of the day. House teams will be selected in House meetings during the next week and the programme of events will be in next week’s newsletter.

Swimming

Next week we have our final carnival of the season with the much anticipated ICCES Swimming Carnival at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre to be held on Wednesday 4th March. This is a great opportunity for our students to swim against some of the best independent school swimmers in the state in a world class facility.

Team App

These have been set up for many of our sports so far this current season and are a great way to get instant notifications and messages on their smartphones or iPad about what is happening in the sport. Players and/or parents should get an email from the head of sport or coach setting them up and then can request to join. For more information, contact your head of sport or you can download “Team App” in the app stores or go to www.teamapp.com and start searching for “College” teams. Basketball players and/or parents should especially have this for easy and quick communication that may be passed on.

Football

There is a flyer with this newsletter with some information about football training for those boys interested in playing with the Hamilton Kangaroos in the newly formed Greater South West Junior Football League in either Under 14 or 16.5 divisions.

It has been great to see many College boys already training with the Hampden team coaches and hopefully more will choose to play in this exciting new competition.

For more information contact me or Jason Bourke at the school.

Hockey Success

Congratulations to Phoebe Russell who has been selected to play in the U15 state Hockey side.

Phoebe has worked her way through the U15s academy and then though a process of selection trials. Phoebe will be representing Victoria in a tournament running for a week against all the other states.

We wish Phoebe every success and will follow her progress with much interest.

First XI Report

A fortnight ago the College played in the annual First XI cricket match against Monivae. The match was held at Monivae for the first time since the reintroduction of the tradition in 2018.

College won the toss and elected to bat first in what seemed to be favourable conditions for batting. Ollie Wortley and Jock Keiller got the team off to a steady start before Ollie was dismissed with the score at 15. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there as College lost 9 wickets for only 22 runs, which ultimately proved to be where the game was lost for the boys as they were all out for 37. Fergus Roberts and Jock Keiller both provided some resistance contributing 11 not out and 10 respectively.

The bowling innings was always going to be tough, defending such a low score; however, College was determined to make it hard for Monivae and was able to create some panic amongst the opposition as they took 3 quick wickets before the score was passed. Eventually Monivae were bowled out for 129 with Riley Alexander and Connor Hunter the pick of the bowlers, each taking 2 wickets.

Whilst it was a disappointing loss for the boys, they tried their absolute best and it was a great privilege for them to represent the school in such a capacity.

Ben McCure XI captain

A special mention to Riley Alexander on taking 5 wickets in A grade this week and  Max Greene for his 105no in U17s representing Port Fairy. A great achievement for both players.

U12 Cricket

This week marks the end of the U12 season. All 3 sides have improved both on and off the field, and have represented both The Hamilton & Alexandra College and College Cricket Club extremely well. Last Thursday saw a clash of the titans with College Blue taking on College Eagles. The result was very tight with College Blue passing the total in the penultimate over. Impressive performances from Will Bourke 20no (Eagles) and Harry McDonald 23no, George Nicholls 11no, Harry Mercer 11no and Charlie Hiscock with 10no the finishes to a very impressive College Blue batting performance.

A very special mention to Penny Stewart and Kylie Nicholls who sorted the BBQ. An amazing $120.00 was raised and donated to the bushfire appeal. Thank you for those who bought a snag and cheered on the boys.

U13 Girls

Last Wednesday,  College girls played against St. Andrew’s at Pedrina Park. We each faced 17 balls and St. Andrew’s girls faced 13 each. We batted well and Liv Handbury made 28 runs. Olivia Read also batted well making 16. College took a lot of wickets, especially run outs. Everyone in our team walked away with a wicket. The final score was St. Andrew’s 7/13 and College 2/71 Thanks to Will Merrin for umpiring and to Miss Couchman for coaching.
