First Aid for Schools
On Monday and Tuesday, a St John’s Ambulance professional trainer led sessions with students from ELC 4 to Year 6 on the importance of first aid and what to do in the event of an emergency. It is hoped the knowledge and skills gained in this program will develop first aid awareness in school-aged children.
Book Week
Next week is ‘Book Week’; always a highlight of Term Three at the Junior School! On Thursday, August 22nd, the Great Book Swap will take place, along with the annual ‘Book Week’ dress-up day. Students and staff are encouraged to dress as one of their favourite characters from a book. For the ‘Great Book Swap’ students are invited to bring in a book they no longer want and, for a gold coin donation, will be able to browse and choose a donated book to take home. All money raised will be given to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to support their community literacy projects. We will have a ‘Book Week’ parade at 12.20 pm.
Daffodil Day
On Friday, 23rd August, Learmonth House is having a Daffodil Day Fundraiser. All money raised will be donated to the Cancer Council. The day will be a Casual Clothes Day with a touch of yellow. It would be greatly appreciated if you could bring a gold coin donation. At recess and lunch-time we will be selling Daffodil Day items like pens, balls, drink bottles, torches, key rings and more. Hockey
College Division Five secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 result against Monivae. Phoebe Alexander scored both goals and starred alongside Maggie Mercer and Charlie Hindhaugh. It was a terrific win and one the team has been building towards for a number of weeks. Well done coach Mr Ben Hawthorne and his young charges.
College Bandicoots defeated top of the table Demons 7-5 in a fantastic match at Neil Maclean Hockey Field. Skye Headlam scored three goals and starred in the forward line. The win was a real team effort, with all players contributing heavily to the result. With two games remaining, Bandicoots have all but secured a finals spot.
College Drop Bears were 11-0 winners over Monivae at a wet and windy ‘Pleurisy Park’. Harry Austin scored five goals and dominated the midfield. He was ably supported by goal scorers Millie Mould, Alex Donovan, Jack Jarvis, Charlie Adams and Olivia Rees. Hayley Spence ran with purpose and Charlie Hawthorne enjoyed a break from fullback on the forward line. The team sits second on the ladder, with two games remaining in the regular season.
College Tassie Devils defeated an improving Dunkeld 1-0. The win moves them to 4th spot on the ladder, with two matches to play. Tassie Devils had to work hard to beat a determined Dunkeld keeper. Best for Bandicoots were Charlie Noske, Darcy Fleetwood and Macey Hermon.
