Academic Assembly

On Wednesday, we had an Academic Assembly where we focussed on the most important aspect of any school: the day to day learning that occurs between 8.30 and 3.30. It isn’t the most glamorous part of school for students but it’s the fundamental reason for a school to exist.

It’s important for us to recognise the academic achievements of our students when they are achieving at their best, when their academic excellence reaches impressive heights. It’s also important to recognise the work that is done when our students strive to get better, working consistently and setting the standard for their peers in the classroom.

We celebrated the academic excellence of our Year 7-10 students in the recent University of NSW ICAS tests. This year, we had eleven students receiving ‘Outstanding’ awards, which places them in the top 10% of students: Hannah Croft, Neve McClure (Year 7), Katie Richardson (Year 8), Fraser Diprose, Angus Dohle, Jack Lewis, Lachlan Tonissen, Ned Walker (Year 9), John Charnley, Milo Cooper and Michael Crowle (Year 10).

We also had a student receive an ‘Exemplary’ award, which places him in the top 1% of students, which is a very impressive achievement. Congratulations to Cooper Bonnett (Year 7).

Academic Effort Awards

This year, we have created Outstanding Academic Effort awards to recognise the hardest working students in each year level. The awards are based on Terms 1 and 2 points in the Frost Trophy, the competition that we use to award academic endeavour at a whole-house level. We wanted to go a step further to recognise the individuals who are consistent and diligent students at the Academic Assembly. As Dr Hirst said, not every student can win an academic prize at our Scholars’ Assembly, but every student is capable of winning an Outstanding Academic Effort award. Congratulations to the inaugural winners of this award.
